weekend finds

Find1
Ah, a very lovely weekend - I hope yours was too. We had one drizzly day - perfect for inside house projects and reading and lounging; and one gorgeous summer day - perfect for visiting with family, trail walks and playing baseball. And, of course, there was a tiny bit of weekend time for thrifting and yard sailing too.

Last week I was all drooly over Meg's fabulous vintage girls dresses she found thrifting. And then a few friends appeared with some more, and I figured that must be the end of them. But there were more! By the time I finally got myself over there this weekend, these were still kicking around (and I left a few behind, if anyone's local and interested). I do wonder what the story is with all of these handmade vintage dresses - I'd like to think the maker would be pleased at the new life they're getting. These are a little big yet for Lady A, but hopefully she'll let me put them on her when the time comes (one can hope). In the meantime, that red wool is the best "Annie" dress my kids could hope for.

A few little linens - bedsheets that I'm really loving.

And this little clock - I've been looking for an old one for my studio. And this yellow and aqua one is just perfect for me.

I promised myself a year ago that I would NOT bring any more aprons into my house. For the most part, I've stuck to that. But really, how could I resist this one?  It's cocktail time. My apron says so.

Oh, what fun!!! I wish we had your rain. This is the worst drought I can remember so early for us in the summer. Our sugar snap peas are on the vine, and taste sweet, but they have absolutely no moisture in them! So sad. The dresses remind me of my mom and her two sisters. My grandma would put them in clean dresses every day before grandpa got home from work. Can you imagine?

What luck to find a clock so wonderful! It's going to be perfect for that bright and cheery studio of yours! And, don't you wish we could fit into such cute dresses! All I ever find thrifting are old jeans for girls..... you're very lucky......... and I'm very jealous!

WOW! What great finds! And it sounds like a lovely weekend.

NYC is such a bad/expensive place for thrifting... I read your blog with envy when you post such wonderful finds!

i love it! an apron with such festive instructions... it really couldn't be left behind. and the dresses? i'm having a bit of portland envy over here... beautiful!

Great finds and I could not resist that apron either!

i had that same clock in olive!

Great finds. Wicked fab apron! I have those cocktail glasses too don't cha just love 'em?

What great thrifting finds...love the vintage dresses!

Check out my town's Goodwill. Glasses and pitcher quite similar to those. Six maybe? But the metallic part didn't look so good. And perhaps you have enough. Is that possible?

i am in love with the dresses, especially the "annie" one!

What great dresses and my grandmother's clock! I just saw one somewhere else and thought, "that's Gram's kitchen clock!" and now another one...

Oh God, that clock! We had that clock in our kitchen growing up, except ours was green. When it ended up in one of my first apartments, I decided I didn't like the color and (brace yourself) I tried to paint it with white nail polish. Oh, the humanity! Of course, it looked so awful I never hung the clock again. I'm still kicking myself to this day... Yours looks very pretty in your new studio -- congrats!

the dresses! oh, my! i think i'm speechless.

Oh, I *must* second that clock love! That is adorable, I'm dying with thrifty jealousy!

Wonderful finds! I love the clock---and the dresses, and the linen, and the apron... sighing...

Yard "sailing"!!! What a delightful image. Your sails are billowing with the breeze of fresh treasures.

oh goodness, fabulous finds!! I LOVE that clock!! jealousy is just now setting in, good job!

oh my, oh my, oh my!! I was just thrift shopping with my daughter and telling her about some dresses I bought at a garage sale in college...from the 50's and 40's. I wore them all the time. They were handmade and so incredibly cool. Oh, why did I NOT save them? What a find. Love your dresses. And if you give something away, take a photo first. Maybe I could draw pictures of the ones I tossed!

I forgot to say, "Hey, I have the same tin as you." The one under the clock. Nice clock, by the way.

Those dresses are wonderful. If those were almost the last of the lot I can't even imagine how great the rest were. Someone very talented there! Love the clock and the apron.

oh I adore the apron - could you do a closeup of that fabric? it looks divine! i wish we had more of a thrifting culture here in england - it looks like so much fun! keep up the good work!

I have those large print sheets in a different color scheme. They were mine when I was a little girl. I think we're using them as a paint drape (oops!). I'll have to inspect them more closely now...

yay! awesome stuff. love love love the clock.

beautiful finds, all of them. but the dresses...i am loving those!

1. i went to several antique stores today and paid special attention to the aprons. never realized there were so many around!

2. i read here every day (and love it), and i was so excited when i saw you mentioned in ali edwards' newsletter! http://www.lifeartmedia.com/newsletter20.html

love that clock!!
enjoy your cocktail.

Those are adorable dresses. My daughter would die for them as she loves vintage, old-fashioned dress up clothes! Hope you enjoy them!

oh that red annie dress! I thought that as soon as I saw it. . .good finds-lucky duck!!

I've been seeing so mnay wonderful finds in blogland posts recently, but I think that all of yours take the cake. Fabulous.

Oh my dog! I have that same pin cushion!

You must live near a fantastic thrift store. I wish we had things like that over here. I love all those vintage dresses, so beautiful and I am sure they will look wonderful on your daughter too.

You have inspired me to get some hangers and put out my dresses! I have an entire box full of dresses my Grandmother made for me and I love to look at them. Thank you for inspiring!

Oh those dresses are so great...love, love them all! I see I'm not the only fan of vintage electric clocks~ I really like the one I have and the best part is no batteries to worry about :)

Wow, I love al of your finds, those dresses are divine and I would not have been able to resist that apron

Gasp! You hit the Soulemother load. Nice.

love your clock! you so insipre me to go to yardsales!

YAY! i love that clock, and i'm seriously envious about those adorable dresses!!! i love finds like this!!!

The clock, so sweet and perfect! What a find.

And the Annie dress...wow. I think it's every little girl's dream to have a red dress like Annie's after seeing the movie. lol

I have that same clock in my kitchen and I love it. Great finds!

What colors! I have been enjoying your blog for a while and thought I would tell you how struck I was by them.

When I landed on this post and saw your clock, I was immediately struck by how familiar it looked. I e-mailed my mom and asked her to look at it. Yup. We had a clock just like that one when I was growing up. My mom laughed and thought that maybe it's THE actual clock that hung in our kitchen, not a look-a-like. Hmm. You never know!

You sure found some beautiful fabrics on that last blog. I love that clock, it reminds of the one my mom used to have, that may have been her mom's.

oops. posted on the wrong thread about the clock... tee hee

I bought that same clock at a thrift auction a few weeks ago!!! Mine is 70's olive color and is going in my studio as well. love it!!

What cute dresses! I am glad people still dress their children in classic dresses like those. When my mother tried to sell some of my cute little dresses like those at a resell-it shop, they rejected them. They told us they only excepted things from Abercrombie and American Eagle.
