dinner, interrupted...
...by the supposed sighting of a red-tailed hawk out the window...
...which turned out not to be.
But did turn into:
a laughing run through the woods;
the spotting of snake, squirrel, moose tracks, mouse, robin, crow, cardinal and thrush;
and a field of wildflowers at the end, with a small bouquet coming home with us. Back to dinner.

ah....my kind of evening.

Sounds wonderful....I wish I could live by a forest. One day!

Sounds like a good interruption indeed.

Sounds good, although I would have probably collapsed because of starving. I am always hungry! And therefore interrupting dinner wouldn't be too good a thing to do for me.

how lovely! on behalf of my urbanized children stuck inside to avoid the 100 degree weather blazing outdoors, i feel envious. you are very lucky indeed. xo

interruptions like that are definitely welcome!

What a glorious interlude during dinner. And how wonderful to be able to finish dinner with a new table centrepiece of wildflowers. "Blessings on your Meal".

I've been reading your blog since your sweet girl was born and I've never commented! You were the first craftblog I found, through a search on unschooling. You are a total inspiration to me. You have inspired me to find the strength to homeschool my 7 and 9 year olds, craft more, keep breastfeeding my infant even through much difficulty, start a blog, think about homebirth (not enough good midwives around here), and live a simpler life. I love the photographs you take; they have so much love behind them.

What a good reminder not to sweat the small stuff (like finishing dinner uninterrupted) and taking the time to do spontaneous things with the children while they're still young and curious! I bet they're going to remember the night they ran through the woods more than they'd have remembered that supper otherwise.

your skirt is adorable! can we see more of it?
Posted by: Nadine | July 11, 2007 at 10:58 AM
you are so cute!
we did spot a red tailed hawk in my neighbor's back yard last week - it was trying to swipe one of their fish from a small pond.

What a fun *intermission* to dinner! LOL!
Love your skirt Amanda....I am so totally into pom pom fringe and ric rac right now its not funny. Well maybe it is.....
Although I havent gotten to making my skirt yet but I am thinking I will abstain from the pom pom on mine and only go for the ric rac. :o)
I put up some pictures of my children on a camping trip we went on this past weekend on my blog....come see. :o)

I love that last picture---the color of the dress, the flowers... So woodland-faery like!

Do you take your camera EVERYWHERE?? Respect.
Posted by: Qalballah | July 11, 2007 at 02:09 PM
Qalballah - not everywhere! But certainly on a 'red tailed hawk' potential sighting. ;)

Oh! And the skirt, for those of you asking, is actually an apron I found a few week ago. You can see the print better here:

So when can I move in??
The epitomy of the summer. I love it.
Posted by: Morgan | July 11, 2007 at 02:55 PM
Beautiful run! I love the motion feel of the pics. Run baby run!
P.S. I made your strawberry rhubarb muffins (with a few of my own modifications) and my neighborhood kids DEVOURED them. There is a lovely pic on my site of the muffins, and I put them on my Granny's vintage simple white plate in your honor. I've had to make 2 more batches since them AND freeze extras. You've turned our cul-de-sac onto rhubarb. Spread the joy, eh? Thanks!!!!! Shannon

How fun. What a beautiful place you live in!
We have a red tailed hawk nesting in one of our trees. We often hear the little baby squaking. He's loud! Almost as loud as the squaking of my 9-month old baby boy!
