Sounds & looks ,like a slpendid evening! I love everything about these pictures! The colors, rocks, shells, books...family! Lovely! I must say how much I LOVE your skirt, as well! Is this one that you have made
(silly question?), it is just pure joy!

Oh your family art night sounds wonderful! We do a family game night and once in awhile a family movie night if there is something we think might be fun. But family art night sounds perfect...and outside in the summer? Even more perfect.

Kelly - no, I didn't make this skirt - it's vintage, and was a gift from two very lovely and local readers (thank you Katie and Kate!!). It's so perfectly 'summer'...ah...

you do it so right soule family.

Your life seems magical to me. I am glad you put some of it out here for the rest of us to gain inspiration from!

Hi, I am new to your blog, and I have to say family art night looks so fun! What a great way to spend time with family in the summer!

Looks like the perfect way to spend the evening. :)

How fun... sounds wonderful!

divine. i love how everyone is in on the action and there seems to be a sense of everyone's individual pace, from frenzied to deliberate. all gathered and connected by the colors, the inspiration, and the very air you're sharing. lovely.

cool!

Oh how this reminds me of my childhood...and how we spent our summers [and weekends, and evenings ;)]....so good to see this Amanda! Your lovely children must be having a ball :) xx

We just finally got a table outside, and that looks like a great way to use it!

what fun! i love seeing photos of entire families doing activities like this together. loving your skirt too.

i love the painted shell. and paintings, and the beach treasures as inspiration. but most of all, i love that it was instead of dinner!

that baby girl of yours seems to be looking like her papa these days...what a wonderful evening!

that skirt, that skirt!!! swoon.

how wonderful! i love the caption on that book "shells are where you find them" that's so poetic! and that skirt is to die for! thanks for the pictures...i love the painted fingers displaying the masterpiece. just beautiful!

What a wonderful idea! We are so doing this with our family now. Thanks for the daily inspiration!

what a wonderful inspiration for families!! i too am a new reader and truly love reading your blog and seeing all of the beautiful photos!

Dang! I was hoping the skirt had been made and I, too, could get my hands on that cloth. So cool, but then your family deserves nothing less!

Oh, Amanda! I love this post. What a sweet summer moment. (And you are workin' that skirt, Mama!)

oh, those little glass bowls! My mother had a collection of them when I was wee. She used to serve me snacks in them. What a sweet memory to have triggered! I think I will have to be on the look out for a set of those myself... Looks like a wonderful way to spend an evening. And that skirt is fabulous! Of course, you already knew that...

This looks like so much fun!

oh look at you guys. so perfect.

I love the intent and peaceful::quiet look on everyone's faces. This is a perfect family Summer dinner night. And your shell::rock inspiration plate is wonderful. And that skirt reminds me of a warm and dusky Summer.

Oh, what fun!! We, too had those bowls growing up. Your family fun night is just perfect and posing the skirt- simply devine!<3

I Loooooooooove your skirt!

So fun! And inspirational, as always. Oh how I miss the ocean. Perhaps will have my own faux-ocean art night by the lake.

PS- Ditto on the skirt. So cute!

very lovely -- the art, the skirt, the books, and most especially, the family!

Your photos are inspiring. Family Art Night sounds so much better than "dinner."

What a perfect summer evening.

divine.

Lovely photos. Looks like you have some very serious artists in the family.

You are such an inspiration to me! Can you tell where you got that amazing "Peace" canister?

how fun!!

Love the skirt, the red tin, and the vintage books! What memories you are creating for your sweet kids!

Amanda..Im not the best blogger but I love reading your blog each and every day. You ahve such a beautiful family and I love getting inspiration from you :) Cant wait to get your book.

Chelle

looks nourishing to me. we are headed to maine in a few weeks. i can't wait for the kids to be able to collect some ocean treasures.
p.s. i covet that skirt.

Amanda-love the family art but OMG!!! I heart your skirt! Did you make it? It's fabulous!

I'm lovin' the skirt!

i love those go with the flow summer afternoons/evenings. this looks like such fun. xox

Isn't it wonderful when schedules are so informal and casual in summer!?!

My kids love painting rocks and shells too. I noticed it was this dark browny green. Was it because they painted it every color under the sun? My daughter will paint the same rock over and over and over and it will turn that color. It's almost like the paint strokes themselves have put her in another world. When she is done, she is so please with what she has done. It's nice to see dad involved too!!! And that skirt, that is just plain adorable.

this makes my heart so, so happy.

Argh I love those old seaside books - genius! And your skirt is just lovely

Wow, that skirt of yours looks awesome! You really have an eye for the nicest fabrics!

Sigh...things like this makes me wish for a family of my own real soon. That's not good isn't it? Biological clock ticking at 22. I love how cosy everyone is in this picture and how everyone is having a great time creating masterpiece.

By the way, I love your skirt! Details on it, please? make it the next entry?
