autumn light & rhythm
Oh, that autumn evening light. Am I the only one who finds herself following it around her home? It's bittersweet, this fall light and the changes it brings, but there's comfort to be found in it, too. And so I follow it, and photograph it, and bask in it when I can.
With the changes in light, I feel the change in our rhythm too - the rhythm of home, work, play, and just 'being'. I'm in need of a little blog break as we transition seasons and all that comes with that. For the next couple of days, I'll be sharing photographs and few words. And next week, I'm happy to be turning over the reigns to my favorite guest blogger.
Be well, friends!

Well, someone is up early this morning. I miss the autumn light from our two seasons in Ohio. We don't really get that here (well, we don't really get autumn here at all). Yesterday was the first breezy, cool-ish morning here in North Central Florida...but plenty of pool days left. Hope your day is a good one.

Oh, I've been finding myself doing the same thing. This is my absolute favorite time of the year.

You usually don't post this early! I rearrange the furniture in my house seasonally. During the Spring & Summer I set 2 chairs in front of the back sliding door. We find ourselves sitting there in the morning with the morning sun at our feet. With Fall Equinox this weekend, I'll have to shift everything around...perhaps around the fireplace!
I, too, have been enjoying the shadows about my house ~ through the lace curtains and displayed on the wall across the room ~ beautiful stuff.
Enjoy!

i follow the light too! a chair scooched closer to this window, a table a few inches towards another window. it really is glorious stuff, this autumn light. and i too have been basking (soaking it up to the bone really), just wrote about that at my place...
enjoy your break next week, though papa is a blogger to look forward to as well! i feel the need for a break soon, i may be on your heels. ;)

Oh, I have been waiting for another installment of SoulePapa! How fun. And no, you are not the only one following the light around your house.
Posted by: Eren | September 19, 2007 at 08:02 AM
yes
bittersweet
but so
beautiful.
there's
always
something
comforting
about
fall light...
maybe because
it brings one
indoors again
and
closer
to
the home.

Lovely photos. I am guessing guest blogger is coming b/c Miss Amanda is doing some writing?! Perhaps on your craft project book? Ooh I cannot wait!!
Can't wait for soulepapa too!

i love the fall light, too. i find myself noticing the light - and the time on the clock, aware of how that same light will arrive earlier and earlier each day, now.
enjoy your quiet time.

Did you say Soulepapa? That's something lovely to look forward to...to cheer the lashing rain and cold, cold, cold. Good news!

Beautiful light to be following I would agree.
Posted by: Melissa | September 19, 2007 at 08:48 AM
I too am following the autumn light around London... it is so precious and usually in short supply around these parts!
Posted by: lottie | September 19, 2007 at 08:48 AM
catch the light, soulemama. seasons change and going inward sometimes means less words and more photography. quiet the mind, bask in the beauty, celebrate the light. you are one smart mama.

this is my favorite time of year. i find my heart breaking as it aches with joy. the colors, the smells, the simple sound of the leaves underfoot. as i wrap myself in sweaters and build up my cocoon, i become much more introspective while finding my ground for another year. . . enjoy the changing light. it's truly beautiful.

i am a follower of the "light" (hee hee) too.
sunday at sangha, it was all over her living room walls and i just took it all in and smiled. a new season...gotta move the furniture again!

Beautiful photos, Amanda! My girls had the same doll carriage, and played with it for years! Enjoy your blog break. Looking forward to your guest blogger!

Every September I wish September could last forever. Then October comes and I realize that the last bit of fall before everything becomes monochromatic is just as good.
Posted by: Amy | September 19, 2007 at 09:33 AM
love the photos especially the doll carriage. oh, i yearn for a little girl of my own someday.
the fall is my favorite time of the year.
enjoy your break.

You most certainly are not the only light chaser or fall evening light lover. The rays of fall are what make it my favorite season and are where my continuing love affair with light began. Relish it while you can.

You captured the autumn light well. I find the transition to fall/winter difficult, but maybe if I just follow the light as well.

Autumn light is lovely with its longer shadows and fleeting warmth. I love the beginings of all the seasons because of the change and anticipation they bring. It's how long some of them drag that drive me crazy!

Yea!! Soulepapa!

I'm not sure where I stumbled across your blog, but I've been reading it for a few months now and you really inspire me. Your posts remind me to cherish the simple pleasures in life, and to slow down and just enjoy being in the moment. Thank you!

I am so happy to say "so long" to Summer and welcome to all the beautiful bits of Autumn.

a very poetic post.
love the photos

Yes, I follow the Autumn light as well. It is different here in California, but it is a change, the air is cooler, the light hits different spots, I start feeling the nesting urge. It comes from all my years in Michigan (born and raised there). I do miss that Autumn, but I don't miss the long winters.. Enjoy your break !

Beautiful photos... and I know exactly what you mean!

It is my second favorite thing about Fall. I wish I could bottle it and run my lamps on it in the winter. But the BEST is the smell of Fall. It's better than any man's cologne out there!

oh I do hope that it is Calvin...
enjoy your rest from blogging

I too love following the evening autumn sunlight! It is beautiful when the limbs of the trees dance in it. Thanks for sharing such beautiful pictures. And have a beautiful rest of the week.

I just love your blog and the beautiful and inspiring photographs. I remember the early days of mothering, long, long, ago. I just love the Autumn colors and the way the light changes with the season. I look forward to reading more.

yes, the slant of the sun changes this time of year. I must say, I love it. Looking forward to your guest blogger.

Is it odd to comment that I really like your floorboards? I do.
Have a great few weeks off. I do hope you're working on book #2 as I am eagerly anticipating book #1 and enjoyed the teaser chapter you linked to a while ago!

Thankyou for your gentle inspiration
I am enjoying the change of light into spring here in Australia - the bluebells are up, rainbow lorikeets abounding, the light creeeping in to the house earlier and the warmth staying a bit longer each day - still needing jumpers and fires for a while yet though! And there is still a scarf to be finished and worn...

Lovely photos. Gosh that's a pretty bed Adelaide has.
I'm looking forward to hearing from your guest blogger, too.

Summers' end is bittersweet- it is my favorite season, I love it, but autumn is very nostalgic. The crisp air and the smells- leaves and wood smoke....this year is passing by all too quickly for me. I am looking forward to Soulepapa or Souleson, whoever the guest blogger may be:) Enjoy your break, Amanda. <3

Yes, I find myself following that golden light, too. And when it appears, out pops the camera is if by magic. Transitions are in the air...
