fall :: coming inside

from them to me :: pockets-full of inspiration and beauty in the form of nature bits - eagerly brought home from an afternoon walk in the woods.

from me to them :: bowls of comfort and sustenance in the form of homemade applesauce - warm and ready for arriving home from an afternoon walk in the woods.
Autumn...outside and in.

We've been enjoying homemade applesauce, too. Yay, food mill!

OH Amanda! This might be my favorite post of all time... it says everything, so simply, about the wonder and generosity of childhood and the love and comfort of mothering. So beautiful!

How can we not be inspired by children and autumn? The other day I picked up a few fallen leaves and put them in my pockets. They have inspired me. x

Looks and sounds wonderful. Love those cute little cups on your table, too!

That looks like really good applesauce. What do you add to it that makes it that warm brown colour?
Lovely post, and I'm glad you're enjoying the season; it can be a difficult time for some people. I've always loved the fall, and how everything seems to calm down and there's a stillness in the air.
Take care :)

Such cozy photos. Don't you just love the feeling you get when you provide a homey atmosphere for your children--thoughtful food, beauty, and a safe and welcoming atmosphere--that just satisfies me to no end!

I love autumn, especially all the comfort food that comes with it. Yum. We've been collecting pinecones on our outings lately and now have an overflowing bowl on our dining room table. Love it.
(Woke to our first sprinkle of snow this morning. A bit of a shock. This new city has so many surprises.)

Oh Amanda, when I think about my childhood, these are some of my favorite memories. My mother would make us warm food or drinks on cold days and I still associate that with the height of comfort and love. On my first date with my husband, after dinner, he said, "let's go to my apartment and I'll make you some tea and we'll get out a blanket and a book to read and just be warm" - how did he know? It is how I have learned to care for others. All of that to say, that's just the right thing, and it means so much.

Wonderful! Just the sight I needed, too, with an afternoon of autumn rain, cocoa, mild sniffles and blog reading. I love the presents my older child thinks to find for me. Aren't they such treasures?

Hola Amanda!
I just wanted to let you know that I pre-ordered your book.
I am so exited! I can't wait to have it at home.
There are so many things that I want to do with my children next year. I am sure that your book will be a great source of inspiration.
Your blog is wonderful. The banner up there is just perfect!
Thank you sooo much!

Ah! I remember wonderful autumn days as a child, picking boxes and boxes of apples, and then spending a whole day making applesauce.

Love your blog! We are in the midst of a terrible drought (in Georgia) and we aren't really having a fall season this year...very sad! I'm enjoying fall vicariously through your blog.

Love the concept of collecting items from the day and having it be a part of the centerpiece for the dinner table. Been working toward, piecing together rituals of my own. Perhaps more accurately, allowing them to unfold. My own children really are the best guide. Beautiful photography.

Mmmm...we've made homemade applesauce in my classes twice this month. It's so good on cinnamon graham crackers!

Your applesauce looks delicious! Is every item in your house beutiful? I like that table cloth and those mugs. I'm planning to make an American apple pie (with a lid) with my 4-year-old chief-in-training. The smell of apples makes one feel so secure somehow.
