Fiddling :: week four

Fiddle1
The fiddling wardrobe development continues each week with great enthusiasm and creativity.

Fiddle2
I've been doing my best to be a worthy companion in fiddling style in my own choice of attire for lesson days. Truth be told, he heads to my closet to choose the best 'fiddle-style' he can find.

Fiddle3
But, the actual fiddling, you ask? Yes, yes...that's going just fine, too.
Mama's little baby loves shortenin', shortenin,
Mama's little baby loves shortenin' bread.

Or something vaguely resembling that, anyway.

So great! Glad the tie is having such a wonderful life, being serenaded by such sweet songs by such a sweet boy.

Blessings friend!

Eren

Found your site through your flickr site. I love your entries here. YOu have created a sweet little life for your family and yourself!

He has such a great style - I just know by looking that the music would be excellent, funky, jazzy, and definately of his own styling. What a fun little outing to dress up for.

Haha! Can't wait to hear it. That's way beyond Seagull, Seagull! You both look fantastic.

you guys are so much fun... your dress is very von trapish (though i don'y recall a fiddle there), i'm not sure but still... very austrian. i love it! and ezra'a tie? sooo snazzy!!!

on a technical note... my husband is "learning" guitar (she's kicking his fanny really, it's much easier for a 9 year old to grasp a new concept than a 35 year old) right along with emily, and we often remark how we couln't imagine her practicing at home and moving along at the rate she has without the adult support and knowledge gained at the lessons. while his finger picking would be described by him as weak at best, he has absorbed the theory quite nicely and it's made such a difference in her home practice. hard to explain, but i wonder if you've noticed a similarity? it's wonderful that you and ezra have this connection.

What a great sense of fiddlin' style:-) Glad to hear the lessons are going well--what fun the two of you much be having!

I am absolutely loving the fiddle wardrobe updates, Ezra is great.

I finally listened to your podcast interview the other week, really enjoyed it and nice to hear the 'voice behind the blog'.

Such great style; so adorable.

i cant' help thinking of garrison keillor's "rhubarb pie" to that melody!

Is the Shortening a painful cat-in-a-mangle type thing going on? A friend of mine's little girl learned violin one year, and heaven preserve us I thought my ears were bleeding on several occasions...

Your boys and their sense of style and drama -- it is so good! And must be so entertaining.

I played violin as a child (though starting at an older age than Ezra) and I clearly remember the day, nearly 2 years into my lessons, that my teacher's husband popped his head out of his office and said - "Wow - Amy, that is starting to sound like violin music!" Ah, the honesty. Nope -- it is not an easy instrument to play.

And I must comment on your faithful posting - I'm always impressed by your ability to post something beautiful and interesting each day, no matter what. It is always nice to check in here - even if I don't comment much.

Don't you just love the boys who love fashion and expression? I have one like this and I pray he does not loose the play in dress. I just adore yr little guy and his knack...

love love love the shoes without socks on ezra. the teacher must be so happy to see you two come in the door.

Love the fiddling outfits! Swanky and stylish all in one.

whoa, those shoes, that tie, man! miss you guys!

very, very cute! I'm glad to know it's going well for Ezra. Any chance of a youtube recital? :o)

these posts just kill me. they are full of too much sweetness.

Cute as a fiddle. Oh.Wait. That's fit as a fiddle. Anyway, it's cuteness personified.

Love love love that tie!

You have a lovely blog, home, family, (Adelaide is positively Yummy!!!!) I enjoyed reading your blog....keep up the good work...
Marie in Vermont.

so cute! i love the tie and the shoes! and your dress!

That cracks me up! I grew up playing fiddle and learned just the same way you two are now..."Mama's little baby loves shortening, shortening..." And it's true, the perfect 'fiddlin' outfit' only helps. Have fun!

i love his sense of style. wonder where he gets it from? hmmm...

love that last shot of the necktie/shoes. lookin' forward to the souleband song book because of course, they are going to be songwriters, don't you think? xoC

Such a perfect outfit for the fiddle. The tie is the icing on the cake!

I have read your blog every day, for almost two years now. It is one of my very favorites, but this week it has struck a particular chord. I went to the bookstore for the cookbook just this last Sunday, and only yesterday, was thinking of my mom, and how she used to sing this song to my sister and me when we were small.
Your blog is beautiful. Thank you.

so glad the fiddling {and appropriate wardrobe} are still going strong.
love, love the last photo!
have a nice weekend, a!

Using the Brian Wicklund fiddle method, by any chance? Happy fiddling!

Your boy looks so much like Emil in Lönneberga from the books by Astrid Lindgren. Have you read them? They're FUN! It must be the cap... I don't suppose your boy is quite as wild as Emil, from reading your blog. Have a happy weekend!

Oscar Wilde said something like 'when it comes to matters of grave importance, style is a vital thing'. I think that's a massive mis-quote - but I grasped the sentiment - and so has your son. K x

did you know that a fiddler, stuart duncan, will be featured on prairie home companion this week? hooray!http://www.tricopolisrecords.com/dna/duncan/duncan.htm
