peeping
Instead of concert or movie-going yesterday, I opted for leaf peeping. Oh, yes I did, and it was just the perfect day to do so. We had a glorious drive to a Fall Foliage party (thank you Bob and Patrice for such a special day!). The trees are so gorgeous right now. At the party, the sun was shining. The air was crisp. The company was such fun, and the food was plentiful. This morning, we all smell like campfire. Yes....perfect, indeed.
So, to fill my Maine blogger/photographer role that I've been neglecting this season with my complete lack of foliage shots thus far, today I bring you a little bit of Autumn in Maine.

beautiful pictures, feels like fall...

Oh, how serene. These are simply beautiful photos. I think possibly the best Autumn images I've seen for a while. I love all those glorious tones in the maple leaves.

Music we can purchase and play over & over again but time w/ family & friends are moments to seize. :) What a fun bonfire!
Thanks for the Fall Foliage pics - it's not as vibrant in California but we try!

oh! what a perfect way to spend an absolutely perfect day. love the photos.

Gorgeous! No color yet here in Georgia ... and I'm wondering how the drought will affect the color. I'm afraid they leaves will just turn brown and drop.
I woke up smelling like campfire too, this weekend. One of my favorite perfumes.

Great pictures! My husband and I were in Maine - Portland - this weekend for an anniversary get away. The weather was dreamy... well except for Friday!

Oh my gosh. I love the pics. And I needed them, as it will be 80 here today and no sign of pretty fall leaves anywhere. Glad you had a great day!

I took similar photos this weekend of autumn in Vermont--the foliage is not peak yet, but you'd never know it from all the tourists lined up on the side of the roads taking photos with their cell phones!

Just beautiful. The fourth photo is my favorite. Our leaves are just starting to turn here in Philadelphia.

Oh, we went to a very similar party here too- but the trees aren't nearly that pretty yet!

all of it gorgeous.

Oh, you make me miss leaf peeping. After moving from Boston to KC there isn't much of that happening this year.

I grew up cooking all my meals over a campfire except in the cold of winter and your photos bring back memories and smells. We were outside all day yesterday picking apples so our week will be spent cooking up a storm. It seems like fall took a long time to arrive here but now it is here and we are enjoying it.

I love your photos. They are wonderful. I live in Victoria, Australia and the countryside is so different here, so it's good seeing how other places look. Thanks for taking the time to post your photos, they are appreciated. Also, Maine is one of the places I would love to visit if I came to America for a holiday.

Great those colors! Here in France we don't have such bright colored leaves, but lots of mushrooms! I love this season. Do you have sweet chestnuts over there?

Wow! Really beautiful photos. Here in TN we are still in very high temps and a drought- so no fall foliage as of yet. I could almost smell your campfire looking at your pics. Thanks for sharing!!

Ooooh, loving all the pictures!!!!! Cliche, but the leaves are beautiful!!!!! These pictures make me think that your autumn looks like everything Autumn SHOULD be! Totally jealous in Alaska (where we've already got snow & it's foggy & cold this morning).

Oh and by the way, thanks so much for the free audio book site!! That made my week!! I used to read so much, but with my new found passion for sewing, knitting, and being a mommy, it's so hard to sit still and keep my attention through a classic. Now I can listen while doing one of the 3! YEAH! Thanks.

I grew up in Connecticut and went to college in Vermont. Now I live in Los Angeles and I miss fall so much, our pictures make my heart hurt! In a good way though. Thank you for sharing!

No surprise at all that you opted for time spent with family in the outdoors than in front of a screen.
Gorgeous, gorgeous photography. Your approach to photography has found its way into mine.

The colours of the leaves are so vibrant and beautiful! Autumn really is the best season in my book! Looking at your photos I can feel the slight chill in the air and smell the bonfire!

God I'm homesick. Here in Ohio the leaves are falling off the trees from heat exhaustion having gone from green straight to brown. Boo.
Posted by: Julie | October 15, 2007 at 07:48 PM
Oh, I envy all that fall color. We have such a drought and prolonged heat that we'll go from green to dead. Love that popcorn bowl, too. Thanks for sharing the autumn.

Your pictures are fantastic! I live in the South and I posted a few pictures today of trees with just two or three red leaves, oh, to have those bright beauties around me! I'll be heading up north soon and I can only hope there will still be just a bit of fall left for me to see.
