so nice.

What a lovely and sunny date you had !

Isn't it fun to date your children? For 4 years I had a regular "date" with my teenage son, every Thursday afternoon for smoothies. He's a quiet boy, but it was a great way to draw him out, at least occasionally. And if not, at least he knows I care.

We do "dates" with our children too, since there are 5 they need that alone time so we can all stay connected. Great memories! I love Adelaide's shoes, how I wish they would make them in adult sizes:-) Yesterday was a beautiful New England day for a visit to the beach too!

We do special dates with our three too. They absolutely love it and so do we. I love those photos too...that last one is gorgeous and should be framed and hanging in a gallery somewhere!!

How sweet...and that little girly of yours gets cuter every day.

what absolutely beautiful pictures. also- can we talk about your amazing dress?! looks like a wonderful date.

I just love Beatrix Potter. I was raised on all her books. Just beautiful. If A likes her so much, check out Little Grey Rabbit by Alison Uttley. Great reading!

Lovely! Her hat is so cute (makes me want a baby girl).
My kids are really into Beatrix Potter lately. We got a whole anthology from a library sale. My three year old asks for "The Fierce Bad Rabbit" as his story almost every night. It's the shortest one in the book-- and very funny. And, no one could ever say Hunca Munca enough times. Just naming a little mouse that name was genius enough!

Ah yes, date with the children can be magical. As you know Dave and Doc have been having their regular breakfast dates once a week and its worked wonders for that tumultuous father/ teenage son relationship.

"A" looks so sweet on the bench scoping out the book & cookie. Hmmm. which one do I want? What did she pick in the end?

Love the Daughter, cookie, book Bench pic. You are so good at capturing the mood or emotion in your photos!

beautiful

Very very sweet. Happy girl!

I love how you spend special time with each child separately. I'm sure it means a lot to them and you a wonderful mama for making it happen.

Adelaide must be so used to being photographed that she forgets the camera is there. My girls still perform to the camera.Trying to get 'them' is so hard.

Ooooooooh ... pure sweetness. I'm a momma of three lil' girls. LOVE love LOVE that little hat of hers. When I see shots that include pictures of you I always wonder who's behind the camera. Beautiful photos and thoughts and words. As always.

beautiful. xo

Bellablue - the cookie, of course! But it was a REALLY tough decision and she spent several minutes just lining them both up and straightening them and deciding. So sweet.

Kristy - they're all pretty used to the camera being around, and I'm kind of quiet about taking pics so I think they don't pay much attention to it all. Sometimes, though -- the camera hams come out, which is a whole other kind of fun shot.

Diane - I use the self-timer on my camera a lot. I also have a remote. And then sometimes there's Papa. ;)

lovin the hat, the shoes, the hugs. Great job mom!

oh i love the picture of your girl on the bench - sooo sweet. the shape of her hat adds a new personality!

so so sweet. thank you.

beautiful. just beautiful.

Oh! My children and I just melted, looking at this post.

so sweet. i love the photo of you hugging her. love it! she looks like a perfect little flower fairy in that little hat. tooo cute!!!

I love those blue shoes and baby feet! I had those dates with my baby girl, who is 26 years young today!!! Love your blog!

now that is sweet, makes me long for a smallish/big girl I can still hold and spin.

Your photographs are perfect. How clever of you to snap a picture while walking and holding Adelaide's hand! Thank you for sharing your intimate moments with us....

That bottom picture is just fabulous - motion vies with stillness. You've got the emotion frozen in the frame, but the motion keeps going.

I want to know about A's shoes!

so sweet - what a special time for the two of you.
and I love her blue shoes too!

The shoes! Where'd'ya get the shoes! And do they have international shipping?

And damn! Such a pretty Fall day! We under snow here!

The shoes - I'm sorry to say for those of you interested in finding some - are vintage. They were mine when I was little. ;)

so sweet :)

Thank you for reminding me to take some time with each of my children alone in the next days.

Some of the cutest pictures ever! I love the one of the little lady standing on the bench

Such sweetness! Do you carry your Nikon with you everywhere or do you take a smaller camera?
I love how you capture the true essence of what's going on in your photos - you freeze those moments in time so beautifully.

This little tale that you tell in pictures and words is just lovely. I certainly love to see the warmth and obvious abundance of affection you have for your family. You seem to have such a peaceful and harmonious household.
I enjoy your blog greatly. I am from Maine myself, but now live far away in Noway.
So on several levels, attachment parenting, crafting and location your blog appeals to me!

Sounds like a wonderful time... love the photos!

Melissa! - I do carry my Nikon with me much of the time. I keep it in a Crumpler bag, and just wear it over my shoulder. I don't even notice that it's there anymore until I need it. ;) My intent was to use a point and shoot for out and about, but I found myself wishing with each shot that I had the D80. So that's what I carry. After carting a diaper bag around for seven years, my camera feels like nothing. ;)

precious :)

the best, isn't it. love to you all {and thanks} xo

Date night sounds like so much fun! I love the twirling picture. I noticed that jumper (?) in another post----did you make it? I love it!

so sweet. I especially like the last photo of you two. I like your cute jumper, too--it reminds me of the Wiksten Portland jumper.

Oh so sweet! And I love your mama hair-buns, that's my standard too.

Such a sweet thing, date night with your daughter. I just had to stop lurking and comment.... your blog is just so sweet and heartwarming. I find myself reading yours even when I don't have time to read the blogs I follow, just because it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. You seem like a wonderful, loving, grounded mama, just the kind I hope to be when I have kids. Thanks for sharing your life with the rest of us. :)

Oh I just love that new photograph on your banner! Your days with your children bring back so many great memories of my own days living with and homeschooling my 3 girls. I read you everyday and never fail to come away with a smile on my face.

I love having a little girl to go on dates with! My dd is 2, and she's my only so far, so everything we do together is a date, but I do try to inject a special sense of fun and ceremony every once in a while, rather than just running errands.

I too love the hat and shoes. Is there a pattern for the hat somewhere?

I am new to your blog, but I love it! Thanks for all the inspiration!
