art interpretation

Paint2
We've hit this incredible milestone in the ages of our children and the growth of our family, in which craft projects have become so much easier than they were just a year ago. Beads are no longer eaten, paint is no longer ingested, and as a general rule - markers stay at the table. Generally speaking. It's heavenly, really. The result is days worth of craft projects and piles worth of finished projects. This mama is very happy, and so are the little ones.

I consider myself a fairly mindful, sorta crafty mama. I know well enough to never insert my own interpretation of childrens' art before they have. I never do. And yet - every once in a while - I find myself so very convinced and so very sure that I know the subject of the art, that I dare presume an interpretation. On this particular day, we had just returned from a long walk in the woods when the painting began. The table was covered in inspiration brought in from the outside -  leaves, pine cones, acorns. I had just finished reading an autumn poem, and we had even been talking about the foliage through the whole painting process. So when Adelaide finished her painting and proudly handed it over, I quite confidently said, "It's fall! The trees! The leaves!".

I was met with an icy chill and a stare from my sweet little one. Followed by an emphatic, "No, Mama!!! Milkey! Me Milkey one side. Me Milkey other side."

Oh, right. What was I thinking? It's a painting of my breasts.

What can one say?
Thanks for sharing - it has made my whole day!

So sweet! I, too, have a newly two-year old who is still nursing and he is so obsessed with my breasts. "Night night nurse" he says and "morning nurse." Its the little things for all of us, I guess. LOVE your site!

Um, lol. She painted what she loves! Too sweet.

OH boy, what a great laugh! See what happens when we try to get inside the artists head:-)

OOoohh!!! Ah ah ah ah ah ah!!!... Brilliant!!!
That's so sweet!!!

Best wishes to you all, from Portugal, this fan of yours!! :)

Oh. my. god. I LOVE that chick. And you too. xo

superb.

Brilliantly funny. What a great start to my day.

ohmigod, I just inhaled my toast. hahahahaha. snort. Really. That is fabulous *and* frameable. How many of us have our breasts immortalized in a painting?

"leches"(milkies)is what my know 6 year old still calls them and he was done nursing three years ago! thanks for sharing the painting of your leches :)

That's the sweetest thing yet! I love it!

My oldest who is now 14 1/2 and taller than me...... called mine his "Doggies".

I don't think he's ever made a painting of them though!

HYSTERICAL!! Oh to be so inspiring that you are captured on canvas! That's a keeper!!

Too funny!

Oh, that's so funny! You will definitely have to remember that one when she's older! I accidentally taught my five year old the word "boobies" the other day. I had no idea he didn't know it already, and he laughed and came up with reasons to say "boobie" all day long!

Oh, how funny!

hilarious! where do they come from, these little one!?

oh amanda, this is classic! one of those super sweet and down right hysterical at the same time parenting moments. you must be so proud.

Oh that is priceless! What a cutie. I love your blog.

Hilarious, made my morning, that is for sure.

THAT has made my whole day! Thanks so much for sharing.

Hysterical!
~Kris ( Hi! I found you via the craft sanity interview, via mention on the creative mom podcast group, I'm also a hsing & creative mom)

On a side note - my grandma used to have that tablecloth, and I ate so many meals staring at its vinyl patches - I'd forgotten all about it until I saw it in the background of your pix! Love the paintings, too - inspiring for me and my three year old.

Hilarious, maybe she is imagining your breasts decorated in the fall colors she had just witnessed...THAT would be comforting, eh? Great, great post.

Oh come on. I saw breasts and milk straight away! lovely moment to share, thanks :-)

we are all cracking up over here! had to read this one aloud to the gang! nice painting, though!

Oh my gosh, I love her! I think I just woke the house with my laughter! :)

Very funny. Very funny indeed. Got me smiling after my little nap with my babe. Thank you.

Fantastic...perhaps a fall inspired interpretation of your breasts! Precious!

but of course, warm, brown, milkgiving breasts. perfect.

This post made me laugh out loud! If it makes you feel any better, I would have said it was a picture of fall leaves too : ) Do you remember what it was like showing your mum a picture of a dog or a cat and her saying "that's a nice rainbow, honey," ? Ggggrrrrr....wasn't it obvious!?

I just laughed out loud and my husband came running over to see what i was chuckling at. What a great way to start my day. Thanks!

Thanks, Adelaide, you made my afternoon!

Aww. Its A's first nude painting. Inspired by the love of her mama. It means so much on so many different levels. Such a sweet girl.

LOL!!!
such sweetness out of the art of babes ;-)
blessings for a wonderful day to you and yours!

HILARIOUS!!!
(*tears in eyes*)

Hahahahahahaa!!! Wonderful.

Ha! I can't say it any better than Monica did. Superb.

Astrid and I stopped nursing at the very beginning of this year an still when she sees me naked she giggles (fabulous for the body image to have someone laugh at your naked self...even if that person is just three years old), points at my chest and says, "Look, Mama! Your nursers." Thanks, love. I'd forgotten they were there.

Adorable. And my but you are the colorful one ;-)

Oh gosh...my daughter honks mine. Sometimes a painting would be nicer. :)

wow, ahem, well then! LOL Something like Mother nature. She is going to be your firecracker!
Christina

Hilarious! Who knew your breasts were so orange and purpley ... and swirly. Just gorgeous!

priceless moments! Yes, frame the picture, this is one for keeps:-)
Have a nice day in Maine.

What kind of paints do you buy for you children to use? Ive only used those little watercolour palettes. But I know my daughter Clara would love the real thick squeezy kind.

Oh my goodness...how sweet and precious.

Amanda, so funny! I interpret wrong all the time :-)

Oh dear - I laughed and laughed. What a wonderful story to wake up to this morning!

She is awesome. That is so funny.

you have the most amazing breasts I've ever seen.

your daughter certainly does have firm convictions about things.

:)

I was venting about how much my 1.5 yo in particular has been nursing of late and someone said, Oh have you read SouleMama this morning? Just what I needed, that is so funny and sweet!

Abstract boobs. A new genre for glamour modeling...
