easy like sunday morning
Yup. That's how I feel about these pants I made on Friday night. They ARE Sunday mornings.
It's the Wide-Leg Lounge Pant pattern from Amy Butler's In Stitches. The pattern was smooth and clear - I paired it with some vintage sheeting - and it came together much faster than I expected. And then I put my new pants on and fell in love. I thought the pattern was cute - love the cut and the wide leg. But I had no idea how comfortable they'd be. Oh, so good. And I had no idea how good it would feel to wear sheets as clothes. I mean -think about it - it's like lying in bed while you're walking around. Or something like that. It's good, I tell you. These are going to be my winter uniform. Paired with my plethora of ultra-comfy, ultra worn-in, and ultra-stained ribbed maternity tank tops (not pregnant. just still wearing maternity leftovers from seven years ago. Come on, Mamas - admit it - you've got some comfy leftovers too. Don't you?).
Ah, comfy jammies - or, lounge pants, if that's what you prefer. Is there much more one needs in life than that? I'm not so sure. Chocolate? Yes, chocolate and comfy jammies. Maybe some wine. These are the important things. Oh! And bubble bath. Anyway. I wore them all weekend. Except when I was forced to leave the house and dress warmer in which cases I seriously whined and moaned, because I do not want to take them off. Ever! I was beginning to get a little panicky about the inevitable washing they would need.
Ah, Problem solved. Oh, Sunday morning pants - I love you. This pair, and that pair, and all the pairs to come.

Oh GIMME!

Thank you! I was feeling a little sorry for myself yesterday because the only pj's I can fit in to now are Jims and I had totally forgotten about this pattern! Comfy, BIG jammie's here I come!

Oh how comfy they look...so great A!!!
Posted by: Eren | November 12, 2007 at 07:47 AM
you have read my mind! I just bought some thrifted sheets (a darling vintage tiny pink rose print) this weekend and thought..."these would make beautiful, soft jammie pants"....great minds.....:)

I fell in love with mine this summer. You've reminded me that I had an idea for a flannel pair for winter too - feel a little fabric shopping coming on...
Posted by: Ali | November 12, 2007 at 07:54 AM
fantabulous! i love the idea of lying in bed while walking around. oh, and i have ribbed tanks that i wear way too much...leftover from high school. for real. xo

Yes! I have the sheets ready (vintage yellow flowery)..I'm not allowed to put them on the bed because DH says he feels like an aphid! Well done on the cruising!
Posted by: friendofbigbucketgirl | November 12, 2007 at 08:02 AM
My favorite pj bottoms are made from a thrifted sheet. They ARE as comfortable as laying in bed all day. I agree. :-)
Posted by: lera | November 12, 2007 at 08:04 AM
I used to make scrub tops (I'm a pediatric nurse) from vintage (Children's) bedsheets. Then it was like WORKING in your pj's/ bed. But my husband always said it looked like I was wearing a bedsheet. Some of the cheapest type fabric blends were the softest and never needed ironing. My only question for you and I ask it when I read your blog EVERY SINGLE TIME... What are your kids doing when you're relaxing and lounging around!?!?!!? Mine need my constant attention and if they don't then it means the house is going to need my constant attention! I'd love some guidance on that!

I love them! I am especially jealous of the print on the second pair you made. It looked so relaxing to see you puttering around in the pictures! Have a great Monday!

I've thought about making these pants with sheets myself but never got around to it. Now you've given me that urge (read push) to go and make up a pair for myself!

perfect! i'm so making some of these. and I will live in them ALL WINTER LONG.

I learned a new term for never-want-to-get-out- of, Sunday (or unschooling ;) clothes like these, from our visiting friends this weekend - "soft clothes". Such a good thing. especially out of sheets.
That Sun. NY Times laid out all over your table looks just as good. I miss doing that. I'll have to get it delivered again.

Oh Miss Cutie Cute Pants! Adorable girl :-)
Posted by: Stefani | November 12, 2007 at 08:43 AM
Sweet jams, my kids love it when I wear my pjs all day- I think that it must give off an "anything goes" kind of vibe or something. And, maternity tank tops are the best because they are nice and long. I'll admit to keeping mine around!
Posted by: Libby | November 12, 2007 at 08:44 AM
Those are great. And, yes, my most comfortable and favorite clothes are maternity pants and skirts. They're really stretchy and comfy!
Posted by: Wendy | November 12, 2007 at 08:47 AM
Those are so cute! Good thinking on making them from sheets, too. I just may have to copy this idea! There are piles of bedding at all our thrift and antique stores, because noone seems to know what to do with them.
Although, I'm not so sure I need another reason to lie around on Sundays...

Oh sweet lovable lounge around pants! A friend made me a pair from her organic cotton material that she uses to sew "New Native Baby Carriers". I love-love-love-love those pants! You're inspiring me to sew myself one...or two...or...:)

You look as if your having quite a multi-tasking morning. But funny enough, I find that's the best way to work or relax! No need to leave the couch, especially with such comfy pajamas on!
Posted by: greenemother | November 12, 2007 at 09:00 AM
Also - when I was pregnant 12-13 years ago maternity clothes were expensive and casual maternity wear consisted of the big circus tent top w/ the big bow accompanied by a big arrow and "BABY" written on your belly. So I wouldn't be caught dead - not even lounging around the privacy of my own home -in that! (I did not own that top, btw, my sister did!)
I did splurge on a pair of black legging/pants for over $50 because it was actually cute, wearable & comfortable.

They look DIVINE! The first thing I do when I come home from work is change into a pair of pj pants. I often feel bad for my guy - because this is how he sees me 99% of the time. Oh - I remember the days I used to care :]
Posted by: Deardeedle | November 12, 2007 at 09:04 AM
i am so copying you - the sheets were a brilliant idea!

Love those pants! Sign me up, I'm soooo making some!

I've had these pants on my crafty todo list for a while. Hadn't thought of using thrifted sheets and I have plenty of them. Now just to figure out how to fit them in this week...
Posted by: carri | November 12, 2007 at 09:23 AM
i spent the entire day yesterday in my pajamas as well! it was SOOO nice, knowing i didn't have to drive anywhere or leave the house. alas, my pajamas, that i've had for about 8 years now, have completely worn thin and have a few holes. i've been needing another pair, but just can't find the right pair (or stomach the thought of spending so much money for a decent pair); i have that book and completely forgot about the pattern for those pants. i'm going to make some this week for sure . . . thanks for the inspiration!

wow, you're right i never thought of it that way. wearing sheets while walking around! it's like being in disguise! love the title to your post too, haven't heard that song in forever!
Posted by: camerashymomma | November 12, 2007 at 09:28 AM
I bought that book ages ago and haven't been brave enough to tackle anything from it, but as my sewing skills are improving I think I will give these a go, I live in pyjama bottoms when I'm at home.

Yes, we all have comfy leftovers and the lounge pants look cozy.
Posted by: Anne | November 12, 2007 at 09:54 AM
Your posts always make me feel like the world is a better place than I envision it to be! Thank you for that.
Also, I TOTALLY have a million maternity tank tops I still wear. :)
Posted by: emma | November 12, 2007 at 09:55 AM
Gorgeous - LOVE comfy! Must admit to still wearing my outsize ultra comfy maternity knickers (you know - the tummy warmer type) 2 years on. Just cant give them up. So no need for you to worry!
Posted by: asti | November 12, 2007 at 09:58 AM
I have the same ribbed maternity tanks, complete with stains. All the stains are in the belly region as a reminder of the virtual table that extended from my midriff.
If I sewed I would have some lounge pants too.

yep, feel the same way about the pair I made.

I totally LOVE the top pair,I have added that book to my wish list

I have exactly two real pairs of PJ's and I never wear them. I prefer old stained t-shirts and 7 year old sweatpants I wore all three times I was pregnant. Right now I'm wearing a 9 year old t-shirt with an ad for Jerry Sp-ringers movie on it I got from my 2nd job ever. I joke with my husband that someone will throw up or make a mess when I put the nice jammies on so why bother =)
Posted by: Wanett | November 12, 2007 at 10:38 AM
Love them! I too have the book but haven't made a project from it yet (because sadly my crafty time is so brief). This is good inspiration.
Posted by: Mary Beth | November 12, 2007 at 10:44 AM
Those are Fabulous! Mmm, comfy-to lounge about- jammies! And looking at that first print of the pair you made from the thrifted sheets looks exactly like some sheets my Gramms used to have! I think I still have the pillow cases left from those in my "vintage" stash....
What a great idea to make lounge pants from sheets! Could it get any more comfy than that?!
Posted by: JaimeM | November 12, 2007 at 10:52 AM
Any chance you'd make some of these for those of us who are sewing challenged and put them in your shop ?? :)
Posted by: Andrea | November 12, 2007 at 11:26 AM
You've got me eyeing our old flannel bed sheets in a whole new light...
Posted by: Natalie | November 12, 2007 at 11:39 AM
I sooooooo want to make these pants. I pull out my sewing machine once a year *tsk tsk* and it looks like these might be good motivation to do so!
Posted by: Katrina Miller | November 12, 2007 at 12:26 PM
They are the best en i'm going to take out my sewing machine and make me a dozen of those pants. I'm 12 weeks pregnant (my third little cupcake) and these pants will be perfect for my little babytummy!
Love from the Netherlands, Daan

There really is nothing more wonderful than comfy lounge pants. I have a few favorites that I have had for years. Hmm, I have never thought about making some for myself! Love the sheeting you used, very cute and I agree with the feeling of sheets all day. If only I could wear them to work! ;)
Posted by: Heather | November 12, 2007 at 12:53 PM
Ok I may have to bust out my book and try to make a pair. I love hanging out in jammy pants. I laughted when I read the part about maternity tanks that were all stained - mine are mostly from breast milk and lanisol! Hmm...what sheets should I part with...
Posted by: Amber | November 12, 2007 at 01:03 PM
AH!
Just think of the the hundreds of houses with sheet pjs bottoms being made- I think you started a revolution.
These are great.
Posted by: carol | November 12, 2007 at 01:11 PM
oh yes, i love those maternity leftovers, so comfy. waht a great idea. I have this patterns, but i have not tried it yet, now i really need to. who could not use a pair of sunday morning pants?
Posted by: katie | November 12, 2007 at 01:28 PM
I have been lurking for a while but I just had to de-lurk to say those pants are the coolest. We are about to head into summer here in the southern hemisphere and I was thinking the other day that I needed some summer jammies. ican see myself spending lazy Sunday mornings in the sun wearing those pants. I'm off to seek out yummy soft bedsheets at the thrift store.
