easy like sunday morning
Yup. That's how I feel about these pants I made on Friday night. They ARE Sunday mornings.
It's the Wide-Leg Lounge Pant pattern from Amy Butler's In Stitches. The pattern was smooth and clear - I paired it with some vintage sheeting - and it came together much faster than I expected. And then I put my new pants on and fell in love. I thought the pattern was cute - love the cut and the wide leg. But I had no idea how comfortable they'd be. Oh, so good. And I had no idea how good it would feel to wear sheets as clothes. I mean -think about it - it's like lying in bed while you're walking around. Or something like that. It's good, I tell you. These are going to be my winter uniform. Paired with my plethora of ultra-comfy, ultra worn-in, and ultra-stained ribbed maternity tank tops (not pregnant. just still wearing maternity leftovers from seven years ago. Come on, Mamas - admit it - you've got some comfy leftovers too. Don't you?).
Ah, comfy jammies - or, lounge pants, if that's what you prefer. Is there much more one needs in life than that? I'm not so sure. Chocolate? Yes, chocolate and comfy jammies. Maybe some wine. These are the important things. Oh! And bubble bath. Anyway. I wore them all weekend. Except when I was forced to leave the house and dress warmer in which cases I seriously whined and moaned, because I do not want to take them off. Ever! I was beginning to get a little panicky about the inevitable washing they would need.
Ah, Problem solved. Oh, Sunday morning pants - I love you. This pair, and that pair, and all the pairs to come.

How awesome are those pants?! And yes, I do have maternity clothes that I simply cannot part with. I'm actually wearing my maternity stretch cords right now. I love them because they are bright blue and low-slung. Yay for comfort!

Oh I totally have some maternity things that are so comfy and perfect for everyday use!
Those pants look great and I may have to get that book just for those. One of my fave outfits in college was a pair of amazing vintage pjs, w/a soft flannely inside, and a cool satin pattern on the outside.

ha! what a surprise. i found that same vintage sheet print at my local thrift store (the blue stripe and flowers). it's soo pretty. love what you did w/it. i've done a couple twirly type skirts w/mine for my little one and a few others. but i never thought about doing something for me. thanks for the inspiration. now must go see if this is a sign that your crazy cool flower print is waiting for me today.

Now if I could find vintage sheets like those I would definitely make myself some lounge pants!

Coolo.....just wandering about the japanese book you have laying on the lounge table... looks interesting from the little that I can make out on the cover.... would you be so kind and post the isbn and mabye a little about its content?

good work, amanda. I just passed up some lovely vintage sheets while thrifting because I only wanted to purchase them if I had a project in mind. now that I do, I suppose I need to run and see if they're still there.
be well,
leya

I'm excited to hear the pants were easy. I just picked up the book, mainly for the pants. I have an old flower print flannel sheet that I've been packing around for over ten years. Now I can pack that sheet around for another ten...

those are great! and you just gave me a crafty gift idea for christmas ~ decking the family in comfy pjs and fill their mugs with hot chocolate*

Those look sooooo good :)
I've been planning on making those but didn't have any good fabric - now I've been reminded of the oh-so-soft old sheets I've got (hand me downs from when I first moved out - haven't been used in years because they don't fit our bed). It's great to see what the pattern looks like outside the book :)

Your post this morning inspired a jammie day filled with baking, reading and knitting for this homeschooling family.
oh how I love jammie days!!!

Ah yes, I have a few pairs of pj bottoms like this, too. They are so worn out you can see thru them but still I wear them until noon... Thanks for this heads up on this pattern in In Stitches. For some reason I didn't notice these pants before...

I recognized the material of your lounge pants immediately!!.. When I was younger, my mother made me a robe with that sheet. Now I wish I had it... maybe its still hanging in the closet in the house I grew up in. Moms never throw anything out.

So jealous. Me want pants too.
Posted by: Ivy Arts | November 12, 2007 at 09:10 PM
the cut looks great on you.
bet they'd be fab in charcoal linen or cotton velvet :)
Posted by: sue | November 12, 2007 at 09:44 PM
oh i've been thinking about buying this book...i think you've just convinced me! -kb
Posted by: kelly | November 12, 2007 at 10:18 PM
LOL They DO look fabulously comfortable!!!!! Maybe someday I'll get up the courage to try sewing with a pattern and I'll give these a try. If I ever make them, they'll have to be done in flannel, though, because plain cotton sheets just wouldn't cut it in our cold Alaskan weather.
Hope you get sufficent pairs made to see you through the winter.

yummy! i have the book and haven't made anything out of it yet. but now i know what i will be making. and walking around in sheets? amazing.

I have that Amy Butler book AND some thrifted sheets JUST like your new pants, except the aqua blue flowers are lavender on mine:) Yours look so comfy!! <3

These do look so comfy and perfect for Sundays, I want to make a pair now too
Posted by: Anna | November 13, 2007 at 02:17 AM
I'm totally with you on the wearing of sheets, I've been doing it for a while now, and it really is wonderful!
Posted by: emma | November 13, 2007 at 04:41 AM
Wow. I have these awesome sheets from the seventies that were my parents' sheets when I was little and that they "outgrew" when they moved to a bigger bed and that my hubby and I have "outgrown" too but they are THE SOFTEST SHEETS ever made. I am TOTALLY making these pants. Hooray!
Of course, I've been waiting for MONTHS for In Stitches to come in at the library. Might have to suck it up and buy it.

Well, I would have to totally agree with you.. a few weeks ago I made the same pants with vintage bed sheets as well... they definately are the only pants I have been wearing in the house since I made them... I think if you wore them with thermal underwear underneath you could get away with going outside in them... hmmm.

I've always made pajama pants from cotton flannel. This is the "bulk" of my Christmas sewing. I choose a pattern that reflects the personality of the recipient.
Maybe bed sheets for summer pjs...
Posted by: Mizmell | November 13, 2007 at 10:14 AM
HA! I just bought that exact sheet at the thrift store last week!
Posted by: Rere | November 13, 2007 at 04:54 PM
Oh, amen to that! I, too, have caught the lounge pants and ribbed tank top bug lately. I made my first pair in a kitschy Alexander Henry trick-or-treat print, and my second in a yummy Heather Baily mum print. I'm on the lookout now for something I can make them in that isn't so busy that I can't sneak out of the house in them from time to time - like you said, too comfortable to take them off!!

Very cool pants, I may have to use that pattern and make a few in the new year :).
Posted by: BeachMama | November 13, 2007 at 09:43 PM
great idea...
i have an adorable, blue flannel sheet with little sheep and stars on it that i've had since i was 3 (yes, that's 22 years). i still use it, but my husband and i are upgrading to a bigger bed. so now i know what to do with that sheet!
Posted by: clara | November 14, 2007 at 09:38 PM
Comfy, comfy. yes, I will admit it. I have some of those clothes. I wear them every chance I get too.
Posted by: Teresa Alber | November 16, 2007 at 10:48 AM
Months later, I made some too. I had a pair of much-loved sheets that my dog ripped and I was able to salvage them thanks to you! Great idea! I love them!
