out walking
"Can we go for a walk?" is surely one of the most commonly asked questions around here. Alright, if we're getting technical, it actually follows behind: "when is it dinner?", "can we do papier mache?" (there's a serious obsession going on) and "can we get our tree today?". If we're getting technical.
But the walks these days. Ah.Who could possibly say no to a walk here right now? We're deep in the loveliness of late fall (one of the eight seasons here, I do believe - the early/late of each of the four seasons are so different from each other), and there is much to behold and treasure out there. Today, some of my favorite images from this week's walks...I hope you enjoy them.
Oh! I'll be sharing mostly photos this week, as we get ready for all the holiday baking, the shop opening, the book writing, the merry making, and well, all that really special walking.

Ah I know - it really is 'fall' now - everything is almost off the trees here! Lovely photos
One question: why have you moved from Etsy to Bigcartel?? Being nosey an' all...

Wow! Keep walking.....! The photo with the chair is absolutely stunning. We're re-decorating our dining room and i've turned to nature knows best for colour combinations. I'm loving the russet browns and the water/sky.. the exact colours it is already! I'm taking the camera out again today...

Such autumnal brilliance... those leaves!

Hi Lovely picture, we are really moving into winter here and had our first snow last night, gone be the morning of course as it usually is here. I know what you mean about the eight seasons, there certainly is a lot of variety within each one. I want to thank you for inspiring me to keep a blog, I am home educating my nine year old and capturing days like this and little transient moments is really important. Keep up the good work and do you mind if I reference your blog on mine?

Wow, beautiful pics. I am so jealous of the gorgeous leaves. Not much happening leaf wise this year in the dry south!
Have a great week!

Touching photos, magical moments.
I'm glad you have found Astrid Lindgrens childrens books. (Also for adults!)They are so much loved in northern Europe; Sweden and here in Finland. She was such a fairy tale lady.

Amanda, I adore your posts and photos. I am so intrigued by your lifestyle I must admit. I am a homeschooling mom as well. We don't unschool but use a very relaxed version of the Oak Meadow curriculum. Your home always looks neat, clean and homey in your pictures. You seem to get so much meaningful crafting done. Loads of projects and playtime with your kids....how on earth do you get all that done?! I know, you say you don't get it all done, but it sure seems that way! I would love to hear more about your lifestyle and what books, websites and resources have inspired your family to live the way you do. You have a beautiful family and home Amanda. It is obvious that your family means everything to you and that you mean the world to them. Very inspiring!

The yellow maples are sooo vibrant this time of year. I love them. They make the paths glow! Lovely pictures and the one with you is so sweet.

If I ever move, it will be to Maine, and your images will be the reason.

Good morning Amanda!. Your pictures are so wonderful they make me want to spend some time in Maine. I love the light that comes from the open landskape, and you capture it so beatifully. I live in a narrow valley in Norway, and we don't get to see the sun again until end of february....
Have a lovely day!

And to think! It's snowing in parts of Jersey and PA today! Maine looks spectacular! I wish the precipitation here would go away! Enjoy the day!

I want to say how much you inspire me, and while i will never learn how to sew, i am inspired by how you live your life. i set up my kids with some open cups for their writing supplies and made them a bunch of those books. they are always drawing and making books also but to have them already made up was a brilliant idea! and it inspired them right away. they usually have all their writing tools organized but i have them in closed lid containers that they carry around from room to room. so i set up their space where they draw the most, my office by the window and put the colored pencils in one mug, pencils in another and scissors in another. thanks so much for inspiring!

The pictures are lovely - but my favorite is the chair with all the yellow leaves on the ground.

Dear Amanda,
I do believe you live in one of the most beautiful places in the world....
Posted by: Carrie | November 19, 2007 at 10:40 AM
How beautiful. Unfortunately I moved to Southern California, which has two seasons: Hot and Warm. I miss seeing the leaves changing colour...

I seriously think I own those sheets from the last post over the weekend. I picked them up to use in crafting at an attic sale. :D

I think we're in early winter here. Three snowfalls to date, although the snow didn't stay for more than a day or two each time. Fall is my favourite my time, relish those last crunchy walks!
(Also, another nosey parker here: why the switch?)

The color looks so intense. Our fall color is not so good this year, here in the South, we have such a drought situation. Thanks for the photos.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Wish our leaves weren't so wet and soggy in Seattle...
Posted by: Molly | November 19, 2007 at 12:41 PM
Beautiful photos, as to be expected from you, since they always are! Here, in Portugal, cold and rain came today, and there's not much light, too. Seeing your photos, is like sharing a bit of that lovelly fall. Thank you!
Posted by: Ágata | November 19, 2007 at 01:00 PM
Beautiful pictures! They make me want to go for a walk somewhere in the deep woods and then retreat back into some little cabin and knit or draw by the fire.
Posted by: Kristina | November 19, 2007 at 01:07 PM
Oh, such beautiful colours. I love the blue of the chair against the limey yellows of the leaves. Gorgeous.
Posted by: Emma | November 19, 2007 at 01:55 PM
Your photos are beautiful. Your blog is beautiful. I'm giggling over the paper mache...my kids' favorite request (other than walks and snacks) is "can we do concoctions?" Similarly messy and fun.
Posted by: sarah | November 19, 2007 at 02:15 PM
as always amanda, beautiful!

Oh, I would love to be able to take walks like that right now! And your pictures really are lovely. It is gorgeous up here as well (we are in central Maine- less leaves, but still beautiful) but there are so many hunters too near our house- I wouldn't dare take a walk unless it was Sunday!
Posted by: Caitlyn | November 19, 2007 at 05:52 PM
lovely photos. the whole autumn leaves thing is something we just do not get here in Australia, at least not here in Sydney. it looks spectacular! love the photo of you and lil' A on the stump in particular.

Gosh, everything is sooo soo good.
The one with you in it--did your husband take it or do you bring a tripod with? Or perhaps set it on a log?
