dearest Amanda... ahhh your lovely cat.... so adorable..i can see how comfy he is... i love that blanket ...colorful stripes... the softness of both cat and blanket... i have one for my twelve year old... need to get another one , would you know where i can buy one as they don't seem to have them here anymore....in the uk...
I'm lovin' all these everyday pics. I just want to wriggle my toes in between that blanket and the soft tummy of that warm, fuzzy kitty. Nothing like kitty fuzz to warm the toes.
new to your blog and am enjoying it very much. the photos bring a smile. love the dropped lion? perhaps someone was on the way to do something more fun?
Yes, costumes seem to come out all times of the year here. I love the position of this shot, the stripes and that lovely kitty that knows where all the warm places are.
Beautiful picture, nothing relaxes and lowers the blood pressure like a warm kitty. We always called the striped blankets like this one Hudson Bay blankets.
hey Amanda! I love your blog... I've never wrote a comment on it (basically because of my poor English), but I read you everyday and I like it so much, your creations, your family, your house, your pictures, your life style,... thanks for sharing it! :)

I didn't know Hudson Bay Co. blankets were even available in the US! I love them. You can get them in Canada at any Hudson's Bay store (know simply at The Bay now).
Beautiful pictures...you have inspired me to try my own "30 day" project!
For those who were commenting on the blanket....as far as I know, the only place to get a Hudson's Bay Blanket is at the Hudson's Bay Company or "The Bay" (here in Canada only). Believe it or not, it originated in 1779 and has been a symbol of Canadian history ever since. Just a little bit of trivia for a Saturday morning. :)
It's true, it's a Bay blanket and it you can find one thrifted, BUY IT. They're quite expensive new, I believe somewhere in the hundreds of dollars. They also make coats, which are quite nice and many other products in the stripey motif. It's so funny to hear all the inquiries about it -- here in Canada the Bay blanket is an absolute icon.
I love the composition of this shot. It looks as though the kitten had been romping around in the lion suit, got all tuckered out, and needed a nap. :)
For all those inquiring about the blanket - yes, this is a Hudson Bay! It's quite an old one - we have two that have been in my husband's family for a few generations now. I've seen a few at antique markets in the US, usually priced quite high.
I just noticed on your flicker spot photos from Peaks Island. I love it there and am lucky to have a Faery G-dmother who lives there in a house that spirals into the sky. I have great memories of exploring the underground tunnels in pitch blackness. If your children ever need a Faery G-dmother then ask around for Ted. He is an amazing man and artist and definetely worth meeting.
thanks to you Amanda the retail business is going up....you have great style and ideas...all naturally put together... love all these great photographs.... and the interaction that brings us all together...alot of fun.... have a nice week end....
How I love our Hudson Bay blankets, especially this time of year. My darling Gram gave each of her children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren a hand-pieced quilt and a HB blanket for wedding gifts. And each time, she and her sisters (who are all in their 80's now) giggle and make the same little jokes about "keeping warm".
Wow - just found your blog and looked at the 30 days pictures. I relate. I felt at home. The one with the cat and costume made me cry - why? It wasn't my favorite, I don't see hidden meaning but it made me cry.

We have always called those blankets camp blankets. But I can't imagine a better place to snuggle up when it is chilly outside.

love this because my mom inherited the exact same blanket recently from my grandparents. they recieved it from distant relatives in Britian.

LL Bean, here in Maine, does sell them:

Hope that's helpful! I had no idea the blanket would be so recognized! ;)
