30 days :: 2

I look, too, for domestic patterns and arrangements, practiced daily routines that make us feel at home or that confirm - or conform to - our ideas of what home should be.
-- Kaylynn Devene, photographer of The Day-to-Day Life of Albert Hastings. (A beautiful book about the Everyday. Thanks to Shari for leading me to this gem!)

LOVE this photo. :) so glad you are enjoying the book. it IS a gem. xox

my favorite part of your photo here is the soft, light on the old floorboards. it has such an inviting feeling - i know i'd love to feel them on my bare feet.

OOh, loving the bunnykins cup and saucer. I have a set out on the side that was mine as a child. I'd love to put it to use but my little one is a 'smasher'!
Lovely peaceful picture.

lovely moment...and lovely book as well!

I love how this captures what post-solstice winter in Maine is all about.

What a lovely image, and the book, its gone straight on my wish list, I hold you partially responsible for some of my overspend, lol.
Posted by: Maire Stafford | January 08, 2008 at 08:55 AM
Done it again, pressed post too soon, the overspend part is from all the other lovely books you have pointed out, some of which I have been unable to resist. Don't normally mind spending money on books, in fact it's one of my favourite things but I'm supposed to be restoring our bank account after an overspend on our kitchen.

Beautiful picture. It's the little things isn't it? A couple of my favourite everyday things are fresh bed sheets, and the way sunlight comes through my living room window at a certain time of day and bounces off the wall. I'll be looking for this book!

I'm head over heels for that book- SO bittersweet.

I am "delurking" to share a wonderful project you could do with your family: helping track the migration of insects and animals this year (it begins in February). The site is:
http://www.learner.org/jnorth/
I love that you have your children with you and apply "unschooling". As a teacher in a public school system, I see the damage our design is doing--the school system was originally designed to train children for factory work, not to think and observe. I "fight" constantly for change and modification. Bravo to you. After looking at your pictures of your calendar, as well as reading about your nature adventures with your family, I hope the migration tracking would be something you would enjoy.

Amanda, I like the quiet pace of this picture project. There is so much joy in being home if you establish those routines and comforts. Enjoy this cozy time inside.

Amanda, I know you get loads of comments from loads of people all the time. But I absolutely love your blog. It's so heartwarming and CREATIVE. I check your blog first every day, just to pep myself up! Thanks. I really love the relationship between Banjo and Adelaide too. Polly x x x

Hi Amanda.
I am inspired to join you in your "30 Days of the Everyday" project. I will chronicle my photos on Flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thishandmadelife/sets/72157603672421121/
Thanks for the inspiration. I am a day behind, but am excited to take this journey.

I've had that book on my wishlist for awhile now and was trying to figure out where I'd first heard of it...not Shari's blog, I don't think. Her post on it doesn't look familiar. Hmm. I wonder where, or whether you've mentioned it here before.

Love your floors.

I love this photo. It looks like such a quiet moment.
This is the first time I've visited your blog, but I am sure to be back!

The Albert Hastings book looks fantastic. But I am a little surprised by your feeling the need to take on this "new" project...I thought this blog was already a sort of quotidian (with style) diary?
Posted by: n.b. | January 09, 2008 at 08:16 PM
amanda--have you been to her website and seen her "edith and len" photo journal? just like albert hastings book, but all available on her website. I could barely get through it, it was so touching.

i love this project. noticing the beauty in every day. simple and lovely.

n.b. -
For me - the difference is that this project has clear parameters: 30 days, 30 photographs. Also - the PURPOSE of the photographs differs. Most of my blog photographs seem to fall under these categories -
to 'show' a craft
to highlight a story I'm telling with words
Anyway...these are the things I've been thinking about as I'm moving along and enjoying every minute of this 30 day project.
Molly -
thank you so much for the link to that website - there is so much beauty there! I've just added it to my 'Inspiring' sidebar.
