wow, little league. i'm sure it'll come at some point for us as well. love that shot with the sun in the trees. what a wonderful way to spend a family evening. 'root root root for the home team!' :)
I subscribe to "Living Crafts" magazine and they have a write up about your book this month! Nice to see it is getting out everywhere! This is a very nice magazine, if you haven't seen it yet, pick one up. Good stuff.
LOVED the Mary Oliver poem yesterday! I have read a lot of her poems, but don't have any of her books. I need to remedy that!
Spring has FINALLY made it to Central VT! Colin ane I planted peas yesterday! Yea!!
I miss Little League summers! Our son is now 19, in college and no longer plays baseball. Even our oldest daughter, who complained about attending those many games, confesses she misses it, too! She periodically goes to her college team's games to get her fix and to get a hotdog. (She vows and declares baseball has the best food of any sport!) Enjoy, Amanda. This is such a fun time!
Oh my! We lived in Virginia for three years when I was a kid (I'm British), and little league is one of my favourite memories from that time. Hope he enjoys it as much as I did! :)
Rode past a baseball diamond in Paris recently and had the thought, "It's amazing what a huge part of my life baseball was." I played with the boys until I made it through Babe Ruth tryouts but copped out of playing out of fear of another eye injury.
I still see photos like this and sigh, wishing I could be out there again!
I even got recognized last year. This woman came up to me and asked if I was so-and-so and told me what an inspiration I had been for the girls in the bleachers! That was cool.
Yay, for little league! Back when I was in college I would watch the local little league play baseball----it was so cute watching the kids try to catch the baseball and learning to hit. Growing up watching my brother play baseball in the spring makes me always think of baseball this time of year...
can i just say how much i love baseball season! being a momma in the stands is the absolute best. and watching all those smiles when they do something amazing and seeing them truly have fun. there is nothing like it.
next year though, i will have two playing and i've been stressing over how i will be in two different stands at the same time.
Yes-definitely a sure sign of spring!
I was never coordinated enough to play, but I loved going to cheer my little brother on!
And if they won-we went to get ices-even more fun!
My 3-year-old is mad for the sport! He would join a team now if he could. And, surprisingly, if there were a team for his age I would probably let him for the fun of watching them run the wrong way round the bases!
Amanda, do you happen to have any reader connections in North or South Carolina. Our family is considering a big move east to be closer to family and we are eager to know if we can find likeminded folks. We have gotten spoiled in northern California?
Thank you!!!
I remember those days! (Softball, of course.) I see you're reading Red Bird. Do you like it? My friend LOVED it and I have yet to get my hands on a copy...
Enjoy this warm day!
Ah, the siren call of sunflower seeds, hotdogs and sunscreen! We too, enter into this phenomenon every spring and summer, the older boys all live for spring sports! The littler ones live for afternoons and evenings playing in the grass, dirt, and playgrounds at the different fields! Enjoy! What a time it is!
No going back now! Once you enter the world of organized sports your schedule becomes not your own. But youth sports are their own kind of wonderful. We've met friends we wouldn't otherwise have known, been out in weather we otherwise would have avoided (you don't get that so much in baseball, I think,) and gotten a good dose of what it means to be on a team. We don't homeschool, but our kids tend to be the sort of people with a couple good friends with similiar interests--and sports has been invaluable in "how to work with people you are thrown together with instead of the people you pick."
We haven't started into the world of rec team sports with the little ones yet. I was a PE teacher before having children (and now homeschooling) - I'm sure my kids are tired of sports just with me!! heehee
Just wanted to let you know that the cookbook arrived today and it looks WONDERFUL!! I hope to enjoy it tonight after the little ones are tucked into bed.
I never pictured your family doing organized sports! Have fun. I did the "soccer mom thing" for 10 years with my stepdaughter, but the second time around, with my little daughters, I decided to keep life more simple. We'll see... my 8 year old is saying all her friends play soccer, so we may jump on that roller coaster of twice a week practices and driving all over town every Saturday for games yet again. Tell us how it goes!
it was a beautiful night for baseball. and black flies over here.

It's almost a bit nerve-wracking...the start of competitve sports. But so fun to watch.

Good stuff. So many of us have the best memories from playing team sports. And nothing beats the concession stand after the game.

We're a baseball family too. Baseball in the summer is just so perfect. Have fun!

Do baseball moms have the same stigma attached to them as soccer moms?
Last night was my girl's first soccer day. She loves it!
