Wow! There's so much swirling around in my head after attending Squam Arts Workshop for the past five days. The one thing I can say right now with enthusiasm and certainty is that if you're in the position to be considering attending Squam - either this fall or next year, but are on the fence for whatever reason - because you don't know anyone else going, because you're not sure it's worth the money, because you're not sure you'll gain anything from it - well, my strong and gentle words of advice are to hop right off that fence and GO. Magic happens there, I tell you...and in my experience at least, that magic can come in unexpected and beautiful ways.
My time was spent doing a delicate dance and travel between the workshop and my family at a nearby lake (who spent all day, everyday blissfully kayaking and swimming in the very early and cold summer water. Kids do have a different internal thermostat, don't you think?). It was a lovely bit of good in both worlds, but I am so very much looking forward to being at Squam sometime in the future "all by my lonesome" (in Adelaide's words), so I can be fully present and connected in all that it is.
So where are my photographs of all the beautiful, shining, creative and fun people that were in every corner of those woods at Squam? Hmn. Maybe they were all sprites who can't be captured on film? Yes, I think so. Or perhaps I just needed to put the camera aside for a few days. These four photographs - the only ones I took - tell the story to me just fine.
Thank you to everyone who said hello, and especially those of you who traveled over for Saturday night's fair. Each one of you that I've met reaffirms my Pollyanna belief that the world really is made up of good and beautiful people, and that sharing here in this way we do is the right thing for me to be doing...thank you for that.
My heartfelt thanks to Elizabeth for creating such a space as Squam. I can't wait to see how all that buzzing creative energy I saw this weekend manifests in the world!
And now, onto that mountain of laundry...
Happy Monday!
