SouleMama: Tell us about your background. What path led you to the work you do today?

Elves and Angels: David Smalley, a 4th generation cabinet maker, began Elves and Angels back in 1988. All my life I'd been surrounded by wood and woodworkers. When the building trade slacked off back in the 80's, it was only natural, that I'd do something with wood. My wife and I had made toys for our children for years, so toy making and woodworking just naturally grew out of a need to support my family. 

SouleMama: How long have you been in business?

Elves and Angels: We have been in business for 24 years, although David and Susan Smalley have been creating beautiful toys for their own family for 40 years.

SouleMama: How are your children incorporated into your business?

Elves and Angels: Our Children have always been a part of Elves and Angels. From a very young age all of our children have worked in our family business at one time or another, from sanding handles for Kitchens, to running saws, packing and shipping, or modeling for our early catalogs. Elves and Angels was created for children and inspired by children. It is a family business in the truest sense of the word.

Alright, I hardly ever comment on giveaways, but that castle is just so, so wonderful. I think now that we have a boy in the house, that is exactly the sort of thing that we should have! Right?
