SouleMama: How long have you been in business?
Susan: Mom-owned and operated in Seattle, Washington since August 2008.
SouleMama: Tell us what you envision and dream for the future of your business.
Susan: Satch & Sol is a small family business that grows a bit each year. Every time we work with the Mongolian artists to create new designs and build the Satch & Sol collection, we positively effect the lives of the artists, their families, and their communities. I hope to continue growing our artist base to make a bigger impact.
SouleMama: What inspired you to start your business?
Susan : My father-in-law was working on a long-term project in Mongolia when my oldest son was born. He and my mother-in-law sent beautiful felted wool slippers for Solomon. I was so impressed by the craftsmanship. Solomon wore the slippers often as a toddler. And, then Satchel (17 months younger) wore them, too. I decided to find the artist so that I could order more slippers for gifts. After months of searching, i finally had my first phone call with an interpreter and the artist. The artist's story of entrepreneurship, struggle, and fair trade was inspirational. I knew instantly that I wanted to launch a business to support the artists of Mongolia.
Susan: In October 2008, SouleMama posted information about the Satch & Sol collection. I'd only been online for about a month! Many of the people who purchased that week continue to purchase. I literally recognize customers names and feel wonderful that they have returned. I enjoy hearing from customers and appreciate feedback of all kinds. Satch & Sol offers both retail and wholesale, as well as group buying rates for organizations, for example Waldorf schools.
