I had the great pleasure of a getaway last week to Providence, Rhode Island, all by my very own self (as my littlest ones would say). I was there on Taproot business - to do a little scheming and dreaming with three lovely ladies who reside there - none other than
Phoebe Wahl,
Christine Chitnis, and
Elizabeth Duvivier. But of course some time was made for play too, and I was so very spoiled by the three of them with meals at their favorite spots, snuggles with their precious babes, and tours of their fabulous city. There was so much goodness to take in, but I was particularly smitten with - and am still thinking about - the
Edna Lawrence Nature Lab at Rhode Island School of Design. (Created for the students, I believe it is open to the public, with permission from a curator.) A hands-on natural history collection with shelves upon shelves of everything from coral to animal skeletons to fourty different kinds of birds nests, oh my. All preserved and stored for the purpose of studying and inspiring creation and art with - not too precious to touch or hold or manipulate.
Of course, it reminded me a little bit of home and a certain little someone I know...
