1. The scene above was me, yesterday, playing Charley Harper Memory with the kids, and kind of cheating by sneaking peeks at my fabulous new book under the table (truth be told, I think I saw a TinTin being peeked at from the other side...it was a half-hearted effort by all members). It's The Passion of the Hausfrau: Motherhood Illuminated, written by Portland, Maine writer and artist Nicole Chaison. Nicole is also the creator of the fabulous zine Hausfrau Muthah-Zine, which I found one blessed day in a book store six years ago as a new mama of two. I can so clearly remember the instant feeling of connection I had with her hilarious and oh-so-true tales of parenting. (It was actually one of the pieces of inspiration that inspired me to begin writing down my own Mama stories.) Like her zine, the book is witty, funny, smart, so reassuring and loving all at the same time. It's good stuff, I tell you. Check it out.
2. In knitty news....did you all catch the launch of Petite Purls yesterday? Super cute (and free!) knitwear designs for kids. And also, you knitsters should know that Nest:Maine is running for a second year, and accepting submissions, check the website for details.
3. Some of you have emailed to ask about the Portrait Bookmarks (a great Father's Day present!) an early release from my forthcoming book Handmade Home (I originally wrote about them here). The project is no longer on the Mothering website, but the PDF is available on the new Handmade Home page, where you'll find lots more about the book - the Flickr site, book events and all that. The publication date is getting close! (August 11th!) More on that soon...
4. And last thing...you all rock my world. I had way too much fun reading your drink suggestions last night. So much fun that I don't want it to end - I'm turning it into a contest! Keep 'em coming (in the comments from that post), and I'll pick a favorite by the end of the week, and put together a little prize of sorts for the winner. Sound good?
