This little gift for my Adelaide was born wandering the aisles of a flea market last fall. It was there that I stumbled on this 1930's leather doctors case for a decent price and promptly fell in love with it, imagining all the possibilities for play. It was about that time that "Pet Shop," "Animal Shelter," and "Veterinarian Office" had begun in earnest for Adelaide's daily play (though, you all know that the animal love goes back to the beginning!). A Veterinarian's Kit seemed just right for a special gift for her.
I gathered a few 'veterinarian's things' to get her started - a (purple!) stethoscope, bandages, penlights, masks, and lots of other little treats of that nature. I am sure the stash will grow. {Just as I was putting the final touches on it, I broke the original handle, but replaced it with purple velvet - thanks to the suggestions on a last-minute Flickr plea for help! Thank you!}
And then there was the Veterinarian's coat. I had planned to sew one, but as time began to shrink on me (as it has a way of doing before the holidays, yes?), I decided to purchase one (found here). Perfectly timed, was the arrival of A Rainbow of Stitches - a fabulous new resource for funky, fun and fresh embroidery patterns (along with ideas for applying them). And - thank goodness - a page full of kitties. Yes.
In the past week, Dr. Ada has been SO very busy as the calls to her office have just been pouring in. Traveling by horse, she makes house calls, arriving (as she says), "'fast as a whistle.' She'll treat everything from mice to cattle; ducks with broken beaks and horses with sore hooves (the goose and rabbit are both made by Hansa - we love their realistic looked animals). And of course, dogs and cats.
Especially this one...
