at the Portland Public Library, Congress Street
Our library recently went through major renovations. It's been a project two years in the works, during which time we've wandered around trying to find our interim library 'home', with not much luck. But alas, the old one is back and new and fresh and wonderful and we have once again found our home and rhythm there.
Is there anything like the feeling of letting loose four excited children in a room full of books for them to explore? It has always been one of the greatest pleasures in my life - standing at the steps of my own childhood library, I remember the awesome feeling of possibility at what seemed endless stacks of information, stories and dreams. Sometimes now, I catch that sparkle in my children's eyes too, and I feel so grateful to be sharing it with them.
