Anna: About 17 years ago I was living in France. I was intrigued by the potions available in pharmacies and loved that many of them were herbal and aromatherapy preparations. When I returned to CA I decided to start studying methods of making my own aromatherapy products and it really resonated with me. Feeling poorly matched to my job as a high school French teacher at the time, I decided to quit and pursue my love of this craft. My kitchen quickly became an apothecary and I spent the next ten years making products and selling them at farmers markets and herb fairs throughout northern CA . It worked so well for me as it allowed me to be creative, earn income and be home with my 3 boys.
Then one day a little over a year ago my friend, and now business partner Valerie (who for the past 10 years had purchased and loved everything I’d been making!) called me and asked if I would like to do a joint venture with her and her husband Ernest. This was the seed that has now blossomed into Bodhichitta Botanicals.
SouleMama: What inspired you to start your business?
Anna: Both Valerie and I have a passion for natural bodycare products and feeling nurtured and nourished each and every day. With her background as a makeup artist in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles for 25 years and my experience with making natural bodycare products, we decided we wanted to put something really positive out there in this sector. Our message is that you already are beautiful and we just want to be a part of your celebration of you. There is nothing to change or attain just some pleasure to be experienced and some well deserved pampering to be had. We also really wanted to make our products with not only fabulous raw ingredients and therapeutic essential oil blends but also with flower, gem and environmental essences adding a vibrational healing component as well. We feel this makes a very holistic product that offers healing and enjoyment on many levels.

What inspires you?
Anna: I am inspired by nature, family and friends. By the way a soft breeze, birdsong and the scent of a rose can make me believe in something bigger than myself. I am completely restored by the wordless world that exists when I commune with the natural kingdom. I am also delighted when my 2 year old tells me something with his new-found words that someone more sophisticated could have never mustered. When I see my two little boys running in the sprinkler squealing with joy, when I hear my 13 year playing his new melodica or have a quiet moment to share a story of the day with my sweet hubby - I am happy. It seems inspiration for my craft comes when it wants and often not when I would have expected. I am however always open to receive and grateful for the message.
