Today, I bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor, Lineanongrata. In artist Julia's words:
"The Lineanongrata shop sells mostly prints, pinback buttons and postcards of my illustrations. Sometimes I list a couple of originals. I have a blog where I often post series of illustrations and sometimes tell stories that I hear or notice here in Berlin."
~~~
Julia: I have worked as a freelance illustrator for five years, illustrating for magazines mostly, and selling prints and postcards in the Lineanongrata Etsy shop on the side. The last two years have been slow for me as an illustrator because I have worked on a French winery (I have lived in France for eleven years), but I moved back to Germany at the beginning of the year and am now happily working fulltime as a freelance illustrator.
SouleMama: Tell us about your background - what path has led you to where you are today?
Julia: I was born in Germany, and, I have no idea why, but since I was little I thought that I'd be happier living in a foreign country. So I spent a year and a half in the USA when I was very young, living in an American Host family in Michigan, and when I had finished High School in Germany, I went to live in France. Never had I thought that I would stay there as long as I did, but you know the way France works: I fell in love, stayed, finally went to graphic design school in Aix-en-Provence and then in Paris, fell out of love, fell in love again, and at the end I had been living in France for eleven years. Only in the last two years did I feel the urge to return home. Eleven years is a long while and while I learned to speak French fluently, I could never adapt completely. The French and the Germans are very different in many ways, and I don't think we can ever learn the ways a culture works as deeply and thoroughly as adults as we can when we are children. So since the beginning of 2010 I live in Berlin and I haven't been so violently happy in years.
SouleMama: What inspires you?
Julia: Anything really, often it's words I read or hear on the street, the funny little stories that happen to me here in Berlin, and then there's the vast Internet with all the beautiful blogs and photos. There's more inspiration there than I could ever assimilate.
SouleMama: What your most treasured thing in your home?
Julia: The quilt my sister gave me for my 30th birthday.
