With many thanks to two blogs in my reader - itty-bitty blog!, followed closely by Alicia Paulson - I found my way to Citronille a few weeks back.
After a bit of time debating (well, five minutes, really), I decided that if I could decipher Japanese patterns enough to make something come out of it, then surely I could put all those years of high school and college French to use to make a garment out of a French pattern. And so I forged ahead and ordered three patterns with confidence (exercising great restraint by not ordering the whole collection! They're all so good!).
Turns out, though, that my French, ten years later? Tres mal.
But...thank goodness I can read a sewing diagram. (And thank goodness that Citronille includes plenty of good sewing diagrams.)
So this is Suzanne. Isn't it sweet? Goodness, I do love this dress. I love the simplicity of it, and the sweetness of the lines. I love how quickly the pattern worked up (once I stopped reading the words and starting looking at the pictures), and I love that Adelaide loves it. It's really perfectly 'her' to me - not 'fussy' or too frilly. But classic, strong, and sweet. That's my girl - always barefoot, catching crabs, and pairing her newest dress with her great-grandfather's fishing hat. Tres bon!
