This week, in my kitchen, I have...
:: (after admitting that the dishwasher isn't getting replaced any time soon) tried convincing the children that washing dishes together after dinner is a really fun way to spend time together (with a little Joan Jett, they believe us).
:: started priming, and remembered that primer, even, feels good.
:: painted a chalkboard wall!
:: been enormously grateful for all the moving-around and shelf space I finally have in a kitchen.
:: loved having an 'eat-in' kitchen.
:: wondered how anyone could have lived with so little counter space.
:: greeted with love and gratitude a sister who drove a butcher block all the way across the country so we could have just a little more counter space.
:: thought lots and lots about my (very far-in-the-future) future plan for this space that I call "the best temporary kitchen I could ask for."
:: hosted many loud and joyous family gatherings.
:: been trying to find the best spots in the house for bread to rise where it won't get stepped on (oops).
:: made pumpkin pie six times. SIX times. (The Art of Simple Food holds my favorite recipe for it.)
:: made sweet potato biscuits, at the prompting of the most recent 3191. Yum. (Tonight I'm trying it with cranberries too.)
:: made caramels and mini-chip meringues. (My sweet tooth has been unusually loud. No one here is complaining.)
:: been embracing the corners of 'us' that are appearing, and seeing glimmers of hope and excitement in the future of this room that is so very important to my days with my family.
It's a busy place, this kitchen of ours.
