Come on in...to The Library. We are all so, so very happy to have this space. (It could have been a dining room, but we opted for an eat-in-kitchen in favor of having this space as it is.) A place for all of our books, our games, and family art supplies. I suppose it could be called lots of things - an art room, a family studio. But, oh...I've wanted a Library in my house since I could read. And so Mama chose the name.
They don't care what it's called, they're all just really happy to have some extra space to spread out their work. A space where we can leave a game going on the table, or an art project drying without having to move it for dinner. A space where I find (each of them) at various points in our days slipping inside, closing the doors gently and quietly behind them and enjoying the silence of a room of books and art all by themselves for a moment or two.
The room is "finished" for the moment, though it's the kind of room that will surely change with our seasons. I have a few (dozen) more boxes of books to find room for, perhaps a shelf more to build (we put this room together entirely from things we already had or found), and there is the one major design flaw in need of a fix. Currently, the library's 'hours' are dawn to dusk...until I find the perfect light fixture (I'm thinking about this, or something like it. Other ideas?).
The paint color is Leaf .07 by Yolo Colorhouse. It's by far the boldest color present in the house (excepting, perhaps, Ezra's 'bandaid' colored room). But, as I had hoped, I think the vibrancy that comes with this color is just the kind of background that feels so good and lively with the kind of activity that happens here. And, oh the way the light streams in through those southeast-facing windows.
I expect this is just where you'll find all of us on a sunny winter's morning. And every other day, too.
