What could be more fun than making a last minute skirt and appliqued shirt to wear to your cousin's fifth birthday party?
Why, making a matching one for the birthday girl, of course.
(Thank you, once again to Oliver + S for the perfect last minute pattern found in the Lazy Days Skirt!)
Postscript Note, to answer your questions: For applique like this, I iron a piece of HeatNBond Lite onto the backside of the applique fabric piece, then draw with pencil (on the adhesive backing paper) the shape I need (remembering to reverse letters!). After cutting that shape out and removing the adhesive backing, the piece can be ironed in place on the t-shirt. I then stitch around the edges of this piece to secure it in place. The extra step of HeatNBond just ensures that the applique really stays in place and prevents puckering and stretching of the jersey while sewing. As for the t-shirts, I'm always picking up clean, blank shirts (in all sizes) to have on hand (just for such an ocassion!) when they're on sale or I find them in thrift shops. The size tags I purchased in bulk on Ebay several years ago, but don't have a source on where to find them specifically.
