Today, I bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor Satch & Sol. In Susan's words:
"For the love of family & earth, Satch & Sol partners with a fair trade artisan cooperative in Mongolia to offer a handmade collection of traditionally felted wool slippers, hats, mittens, hairbands and more. The Slipper Collection includes dozens of styles for infants, children and adults. All slippers are seamlessly felted and have a soft suede sole. An approved member of Green America, Satch & Sol strives to be eco-friendly through product selection and business practices. Satch & Sol is mom-owned and operated in Seattle.
You can keep up with Satch & Sol on their Facebook page."
SouleMama: How long have you been in business?
Susan: Mom-owned and operated since August 2008
SouleMama: Where do you go to recharge?
Susan: To fully recharge, I do a Crossfit workout at the gym or at home. A great workout always prepares me for work and family. Also, I often regain energy and focus for work by doing a craft project with my children. They get so excited and their creativity is contagious.
SouleMama: What's coming up next for you and your business?
Susan: We have a baby due in January. Since my sons' names are Satchel & Solomon (Satch & Sol), perhaps I'll look at how to include our newest child's name, as yet TBD. Seriously, I am happy to see Satch & Sol growing. I look forward to opening new markets (outside the USA and Canada) for the Mongolian artists, and adding new felted wool products to the Satch & Sol selection, handmade by the amazing entrepreneurial artists in Mongolia.
SouleMama: What inspired you to start your business?
Susan: I am an advocate for fair trade and eco-friendly products and businesses practices. I'm also a lover of handmade products. When my in-laws spent months in Mongolia, met the artists, and shared their handicrafts and stories with me, I was unbelievably inspired to work with this amazing entrepreneurial group. The women in Wool Craft Cooperative in Mongolia work hard to improve life for their families and their community. They have created successful businesses using eco-friendly felting skills and all local resources. I am in awe of their ability to create their own successful small businesses (artist cooperatives) despite high poverty and poor housing and weather conditions.
SouleMama: What's your favorite part of your job?
Susan: I love giving Satch & Sol gifts to friends and family! Sometimes I look at a new style of slippers and immediately think of a specific person in my life.
