This week, in our kitchen, we have ....
:: entertained and been entertained by the very young and the very old
:: marveled at (and been grateful for) what just a few extra hours of light will do for our laying ladies
:: watched as Calvin found 'his' cookie recipe and made it on his own over and over and over again (it's the Butter Cookies from The Art of Simple Foods - yum)
:: realized it's been a full year now that we've been living with generations of kombucha growing in the corner of my kitchen(s), happily incorporating it into our routine, enjoying lots of different flavors, and sharing offspring with friends along the way (my 'mother' came from here originally)
:: been taking advantage of the local, organic cranberries available this time of year (combined with the not-so-local avocados) to make one of my most favorite salsa treats - Cranberry- Avocado Salsa
:: started to sketch out a design of our someday future kitchen redo, which includes replacing the gas range with a wood burning cookstove. I've begun having hourly daydreams about this amazing beast (a girl can dream, right?), or a stroll through the aisles here
:: had an actual dream about eating lemon meringue pie and don't think I'll be able to rest until I do so (have I ever made lemon meringe pie? do I even like lemon meringe pie? I'm not sure, but I'm not one to ignore my dreams, particularly of the food variety while pregnant)
:: made soup, ate soup, made more soup, ate more soup. repeated daily. amidst this week's soup offerings - curried carrot soup, our broccoli soup, and white bean and kale minestrone.
A little message from my kitchen to yours...a la Michael Franti via Ezra Soule...on this beautiful blustery snowy Maine morning.
It's a busy place, this kitchen of ours.
What's going on in YOUR kitchen this week?
