SouleMama: How long have you been in business?
Anj: Meadow Yarn has only been up and running for just over a year so we're still enjoying sourcing new lines, getting to grips with seasonal changes and building our customer base.
SouleMama: Tell us about your background. What path led you to the work you do today?
Anj: Before we set up Meadow Yarn we ran 'Kittykins Cloth Nappies' (diapers) for almost 8 years but having seen our 3 boys safely out of diapers we felt it was time for a change and a business built around my love of yarn seemed a natural next move. Our main motivation has always been to enjoy our family and work in a way that allows us to be flexible and be together.
SouleMama: Tell us about the beginnings of your business?
Anj: We set out to create a web site to showcase the beautiful products we wanted to stock so our site is all about wonderful photography and intuitive functionality - searching yarns by colour for example. We want a visit to Meadow Yarn to be like walking into the yarn store of your dreams!
SouleMama: Tell us what you envision and dream for the future of your business?
Anj: Our business is based in a rented 'barn' that sits in 40 acres of meadow and woodland. It's an idyllic and inspirational place to run a fibre based business. In the summer sheep graze the meadows and in the winter it's a different place altogether but none the less magical for it's starkness. We live in a village nearby so work & home life are distinct and some day in the future I'd love to be able to combine the two in a much more fluid way.
SouleMama: What inspires you?
Anj: There's nothing more amazing than seeing the beautiful things that our customers create with the yarn we sell and the huge craft blog network and sites like Ravelry have made it possible for people to connect and share hand crafted projects in a very special way that never ceases to provide inspiration.
