Today, I bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor Imagine Childhood. In Sarah's own words:
SouleMama: Tell us about your background. What path led you to do the work you do today?
Sarah: I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I feel like the path that has led me to where I am today has been a circular one. Growing up I had always wanted to be involved in primary education in one way or another. But college led me in a different direction, toward the world of art, where I lived for quite a while thereafter. It actually wasn’t until I worked in exhibition design for the Field Museum of Natural History, that I began to recognize a familiar texture beneath my feet, roots and stones on a path that I’d navigated before. I wasn’t teaching per se, but I was beginning to come back to the idea of developing conduits for information, of putting time and care into how ideas could be shared with children. Now in the work that I am doing at Imagine Childhood, in the shop and the blog as well as a new venture into the world of writing, I feel like I’ve come back to where I started, but this time with a completely different perspective... one that I could only get from going the long way around.
SouleMama: What inspires you?
Sarah: Right now it’s the space in between. The spaces between the leaves on the tree outside my window that collapse and expand depending on the wind. The space in between breaths where everything, even my body, is completely quiet for a millisecond. The space between thought and action where everything lives in a world of unbridled potential.
SouleMama: Tell us about your customers.
Sarah: Our customers are, in short, amazing. Families of all shapes and sizes that generously share their stories, and sometimes even their adventures (in the nature walk series on our blog) with us. Every time I get an email or a call where someone explains the look on their 4 year old’s face after using binoculars for the first time, or the happiness that a simple wooden growth chart brought to a kid’s oncology ward (when a nurse who worked there had the wisdom to know that it was important to measure positive growth too) I feel lucky. Really lucky. I feel lucky to be in a business, that most days, doesn’t feel like business at all. I feel lucky to share in a community of people who are so engaged with and devoted to the growth of their families in every way, physiologically, emotionally and intellectually. I guess, what I'm trying to say, is that our customers are inspiring.
SouleMama: What's the product or offering you're most excited about right now? Tell us about it.
Sarah: With just a hint of autumn rolling on the wind, I’m excited about our back to school goods and the blank notebooks! A school nerd from the start, my favorite thing growing up was that stack of fresh empty notebooks that I would receive each fall. They were crisp and clean, just waiting to be filled to the brim.
