SouleMama: Tell us about the beginnings of your business?

Liz: the shop is really a reflection of my own creative growth, so it's changed and grown pretty organically since i started selling. i opened shop in 2007, and for the first year or two i sold mostly knit hats for kids, wool felt crowns, blankets and softies.  over the years as my own crafting interests evolved and changed, so have the items in my shop.  it's been really interesting to look back at the ways that the shop has grown as a result of my customers' requests and preferences too.

SouleMama: How do you come up with new designs and ideas?

Liz: 

most of my products begin as a gift idea for someone in my own life or something i find useful or meaningful, and i'm happy to find that a lot of other folks feel a connection with them too. 

new designs and inspiration come from everywhere.   i feel like my creative wheels are always turning and seeking out ways to connect.   sometimes i have a new medium that i'm dying to try, sometimes it's a striking color combination or a design idea that i've been mulling over for a while, or maybe it's a sweet something from my own life that feels really special to me...  sooner or later everything snaps into place and it all comes together!

SouleMama: What's your favorite part of your job? The most challenging?

Liz: my favorite part of my job is simply doing what i love.  i'll always be creating and crafting as much as i can -- with or without the shop -- but the fact that i can do it for a living, support our family, and connect with folks all over the world through my craft?  that is such an amazing blessing for me.

my other favorite part of my job is that i get to do it from home (my favorite place!) and that it's flexible enough to allow me to be with my family (my favorite people!).  i have a lot of favorites... and most of the time they all go together pretty nicely.
