Today, I bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor, Woolen Moss. In Kate's words:
"I make organic clothing for your body and your earth. Each piece is designed and made for you, by me. All right here on our sheep farm in the Finger Lakes Region of New York."
SouleMama: How do you come up with new designs and ideas?
Kate: Whenever I look up fashion blogs or grab a fashion mag, I feel like I'm entering a strange world where I don't belong. I'm not saying I never get inspired by a certain cut, or line or drape, but it is mostly about feel for me. Depending on how I feel about my body that day may determine the style of the garment I create by whether I want to accentuate or hide. And on a bad day I may come up with something so comfortable that it just might change my feelings around by the end of the day. I feel so lucky to be able to do that for myself, and hopefully for you too. Sometimes I come up with my ideas by feeling the gaps in my own wardrobe. When I can't find what I want or need to wear that day, I either scribble down the image I have in my mind and hope it emerges from the "make this" pile someday. Or I run downstairs and make it, and then soon after, offer it to you too. I once popped a hem while stretching a shirt over my elbow, now all my clothes have a new embroidered hem so that no longer happens, also giving all my garments a truly unique Woolen Moss look. What a lovely discovery that turned out to be!
SouleMama: What inspires you?
Kate: I've lately been thinking about the difference between wisdom and fear. Wisdom can stop you from doing things you shouldn't, whereas Fear can stop you from doing things you should. I have been doing Yoga again (after a 5 year hiatus due to some of my own health and body movement issues), and I cannot tell you how I love the feel of so much movement again. I cannot do everything I used to be able to do, but learning the difference between my body's wisdom and fear has been a gift. In so doing, I have become inspired by the movement of beautiful bodies of every shape size and color. This is why I use knit fabric instead of woven. So that whoever you are and wherever you are, you can move through this world with ease and comfort.
SouleMama: What's your favorite part of your job? The most challenging?
SouleMama: What's the product or offering you're most excited about in your shop right now?
Kate: I am so pleased to announce that beginning today, Woolen Moss is partnering up with Heifer International to lend a helping hand to poor families working toward achieving a sustainable lifestyle. Five dollars from each Woolen Moss purchase will now go towards purchasing a sheep for a family in need. Each sheep costs $120 so with just 24 garment sales, look what we can do. Just follow Woolen Moss on Facebook to receive announcements about each time we are able to give this gift. As a community of people, we can make such a difference!
