Today, I bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor, Tangled Sky Studio. In Beth's words:
"Beth Billups is the artist behind Tangled Sky Studio. Her encaustic paintings explore home as a personal narrative by examining our connections to our surroundings, to one another and to the natural world. She builds layers of meaning by combining ephemera, oil paint and beeswax, rendering modern images in an ancient medium. She works and lives just north of Chicago with her husband, three children and six hens."
You can find more of her work at her blog!
SouleMama: Tell us about your background. What path led you to the work you do today?
Beth: I am a self taught artist who discovered encaustic painting after years of exploring and experimenting with color and texture in a variety of mediums. Since leaving the corporate world after the birth of my daughter over 15 years ago, I have worked with small boutiques and a large retail chain creating hand painted children’s furniture and custom ceramic tiles. I have also spent lots of time creating with wool roving, yarn, clay, paper and paint and just about anything else I could get my hands on. When I took my first encaustic class at a local art center seven years ago I knew I had found my visual voice. All these years and hundreds of paintings later I am still smitten with this lush and ancient medium.
SouleMama: What inspires you?
Beth: I am inspired by daily life and the things we all do in our roles as women, men, mothers and fathers to keep a house running and to create a home. I spend a lot of time thinking about how we function in our immediate surroundings and how what we value takes form in our our daily lives. Much of my work explores the space in between our public identities, our true selves, the the dreams we dream and the realities we create to better define who we are and who we want to become.
