SouleMama: How do you come up with new designs and ideas?
Sadler: We originally thought we were in the diaper business, making a commodity-like product that saves our customers money and benefits the health of our babies and the environment. After talking to our customers we quickly realized that we are just as much in the fashion industry. Of course moms and dads want a diaper that performs, that keeps the poop and pee in the diaper, but our customers really do want a diaper that they think is cute on their baby. It is almost like a fashion accessory. To get design ideas for our new prints we peruse sites like Etsy and Pinterest to see what colors and designs are popular and then we have our designer come up with her own designs that are aligned with current fashions in the overall baby industry. We also perform polls on Facebook to find out what our customers want to see us introduce next.
SouleMama: How do you keep yourself motivated and avoid burnout?
Sadler: Actually, I really don’t have a problem staying motivated. We have so many things that we are excited about doing with the business that it makes easy to get up and come in to work each day. I know that we are in the early stages of this modern era of cloth diapers so there is certainly some room for product improvement and innovation. Also, we have a wonderful team at Thirsties and I enjoy working alongside these people every day.
SouleMama: Is there a special place that inspires you?
Sadler: The ocean. I find that when I am sitting on a surfboard in the ocean I am most at ease and my mind is the clearest. In those moments I can be inspired by the beauty of my surroundings, be inspired to simplify my life, inspired to live more intentionally, or inspired to pursue my life goals with more focus. I can also feel this just about anywhere I am surrounded by nature. Thankfully I live in beautiful Colorado.
