Today, I bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor, Mosey Handmade. In their words:
"mosey handmade is a Waldorf inspired children's shop. We create products to help parents and families make birthdays and other childhood moments magical. We have a selection of Waldorf inspired wooden toys and playsilks, birthday crowns and party favors.
we blog over at little bits and bobbin, and we have a little eco-friendly craft supply shop mosey's mercantile, and we also have a shop songs of flight of upcycled kids clothes and original hand knits (yes, we love to keep busy)!"
SouleMama: What inspires you?
Jes and Steph: We are definitely inspired by our own childhoods, both growing up with crafty mothers who were really wonderful homemakers. We also both teach, so the children inspire us to stay present with our art and craft. Steph and I are both daughters of German immigrant mothers and I have always felt that helped in drawing us to the Waldorf way of life. So many aspects of Waldorf Education draws on many German tradition, like baking bread by hand, special traditions surrounding holidays (Steph was recently taught by her Oma seven secret family recipes for german christmas cookies) gnomes and fairies. All of these things that we grew up with as part of our heritage has made Waldorf feel just like home. So cozy! Steph teaches art and I'm a Waldorf preschool teacher in our day jobs and it feels like mosey is an extension of that. Drawing on our own handmade childhoods, as well as gaining inspiration from the children we teach...I think we have a really lucky perspective!
SouleMama: What's your favorite part of your job? The most challenging?
Jes and Steph: Best part of the job is seeing photos from happy customers of their children loving what we have crafted. It's amazing to make something with your own hands and then send it out into the world. It's like sending little handmade valentines out into the world for a living!
The most challenging part must be keeping organized!
SouleMama: How do you keep yourself motivated?
Jes and Steph: I think Steph and I are really lucky to have each other on this one. We have been friends since high school and we know each other so well. When one of us is getting tired the other picks up the slack or enlivens the work, and that gives the tired a chance to get much needed rest! We are always bouncing ideas off each other and do a ton of brainstorming which helps keep our crafting fresh. Also ~ Tea, good music, and lots of coffee for Steph!
SouleMama: What's the product or offering you're most excited about right now?
Jes and Steph: This year, our Waldorf style birthday crowns have become our most loved thing in the shop. We have had the best time matching wool felt with brocade and woven ribbon. We spent hours and hours mixing and matching and are so happy with the results. It is really something special to create a crown for a birthday, it's like the children's version of a wedding - so many memories in a persons life will be tied back to magical childhood memories like birthday parties, all the special detail that goes into them. It's really satisfying to be able to be a small part of that magic and memory.
SouleMama: If you could spend a day with any crafter/artist, who would it be and why?
Jes and Steph: Hard question! I know Steph love Lewis Carroll's photography. I'd probably have say spending a day in Beatrix Potter's garden! or spending time with Tasha Tudor...I'm so in love with her illustrations, her home, her gardens, her way of life! I'd also love to spend the day with my grandfather- working in his workshop and garden. He's gone now and I wish I could gather the wisdom he had about the land like tiny seeds and store them away to call on when i needed. At the time I knew him I was really too young to appreciate all the amazing work he did.
