SouleMama: How long have you been in business?
Rose: I started Conscious Clothing about 11 years ago when my second daughter was born. In search of organic clothing and diapers/diaper covers, I realized just how hard it was to come by! I started by making kids stuff and moved on to mama stuff! I found Etsy in 2008, and opened my shop. I now have both Conscious Clothing and Conscious Kids shops on Etsy as well as a newer site at www.consciousclothing.us.
I envision Conscious Clothing growing and expanding in the future. I love making kids clothes, but rarely find the time. I'd like to see more of the children's line including organic swaddling blankets and wash cloths, and the zodiac onsies I have in the works.
I have been experimenting with screen printing as well, and I hope to be able to offer some printed designs by the end of the year!
SouleMama: What's your favorite part of your job?
Rose: My favorite part of my job is creating new designs and experimenting with dyes and color. I always feel really inspired by the changing of the seasons and the new color the plants bring forth. I love trying to match the spring greens or the autumn reds in the dyes!
Rose: I try to incorporate my family (Luna, Tigerlily, and Ian) into my work as much as possible. Being that I work at home, its nearly impossible to separate. I let the kids cut and sew whenever they like and its always fun to listen to their ideas: "Mom, you should TOTALLY make this....."
I realize that I need to listen to them more and more as my oldest will soon be in my customer demographic!!
The studio is their creative place as well and I believe its comforting to know where they can always find me....
SouleMama: What's your favorite thing you've ever made?
Rose: The favorite things I've made are the kid's quilts. Each one has a quilt that I made for them when I was pregnant and have gone through thick and thin, camping, road trips and washing machines with us :)
