I have two simple, but very important, very fabulous things to share with you today...
1. You might just need Roscoe, the Rescue Dog in your life too. If so, today I bring you the recipe. I take my work of bringing a little of the garden into cocktail hour very seriously. This one is a bit of a twist on a classic Greyhound, and as such, has been named appropriately by Steve (who takes his work of naming cocktails very seriously). You should know the backstory on Roscoe, though. Which is that I so wanted to name Harper, Roscoe, but it was absolutely forbidden by not only my husband but also every single friend over the age of forty, who apparently associated it with a silly TV show I'd never seen. But I still love the name. Roscoe. Anyway...Roscoe the cocktail, is a simple, light and refreshing summertime sip, we think. It's been our go-to for all of August.
Roscoe, the Rescue Dog
2 oz grapefruit juice
1 oz vodka (360 Vodka is quite nice)
3 basil leaves
club soda (I'm quite fond of the Q tonics/sodas)
ice
Place the ice cubes and basil leaves in a tumbler. Measure and pour in the grapefruit juice and vodka. Fill remainder of glass with club soda. Enjoy.
2. WHY oh why have I not used my ice cream maker all summer long? Homemade ice cream! Ice cream on demand! Good golly. Consider this my public service announcement: If you've got one lingering on your shelf too, plug it in! (My ice cream maker is this one, and our recipes are most often from the manual for said maker, but sometimes from this book, The Perfect Scoop. Last night, I made a simple vanilla with peppermint and chocolate chips which I enjoyed while reading Mrs. Dalloway, and doing my best to save plenty for the children who I promised could have ice cream after lunch today.)
. . . .
There. I feel better having shared those things - too important to keep to myself! - with you this morning. I have a long day ahead of me today, as I'll be lunching in Vermont for some Taproot work. But before I go, I might just have to stop by the freezer. It's so quiet in the house right now with everyone still asleep, and certainly ice cream counts as fuel for a long drive, yes? Good, then. Ice cream for breakfast. (But let's just keep that between you and I, shall we?)
Have a lovely Wednesday, friends!
