SouleMama: How long have you been in business?

Jennifer: 3 1/2 years last month!

SouleMama: What does a typical day at work look like for you?

 

Jennifer: One of the things that I love about my job is that every day is a little different. I usually start out by going through emails, and some days that can take all day. Most days, though, I spend a good bit of time packing up fabric orders or designing prints, punctuated by trips out to the yard to feed the chickens and water the garden. Sometimes I have a blog post or tutorial or a sewing project to work on, and occasionally there are photo shoots or ads to put together. I’ve been trying to take “design Fridays” and commit that day to creative work, but it doesn’t always work out that way.

SouleMama: How are children incorporated into your business?

Jennifer: Our daughter, Anabelle is 3 1/2 now, but she was only 3 weeks old when our first collection arrived, so she’s been an integral part since the beginning. I draw a lot of inspiration from her, and from imagining prints and outfits I’d like to create for her. We’re coming out with a knit collection next month that was imagined when she was in onesies, and it’s finally coming to fruition. She’s also our main model, and has been dressed up and photographed in every collection we’ve produced! This time around, though, we roped in all the neighborhood kids and my friend’s infant twins and had a fun photo shoot.

SouleMama: What's the product or offering that you are most excited about in your shop right now? Tell us about it.

Jennifer: I’m really excited about our two newest collections, Meadow and Urban Patch that arrived in the shop in November. Both collections are GOTS-certified, and the fabric washes up beautifully and is great to sew with. I’m also excited about our new Little Bee Babysuit pattern which pairs with our new knits to create adorable organic baby outfits.
