SouleMama: Is there a creative pursuit you haven't explored yet, but would like to?
Courtney: We are always talking about all the "other" crafts we wish we had more time for! But, both of us spend a fair amount of time sewing. Kate sews a lot, and you can see her progress on her personal blog. I used to make extra money as a seamstress, doing alterations for friends and neighbors as a little side business, and used to do contract sewing for designers and artists. We both wish we had more time to really delve into pattern drafting and designing our own line of clothing and fabrics! There are only so many hours in the day, though!
SouleMama: What does 'being creative' mean to you?
Courtney: Being creative to us, ultimately, means being happy. Of course, along with running a creative business there is a lot of grunt work, but we are always happy at the end of the day. Even when we have to spend days just plugging away at data entry, editing, bookkeeping, or filling in spreadsheets we are doing it for a deeply fulfilling and satisfying reason!
SouleMama: What advice do you have for people wanting to be more creative?
Courtney: Don't be afraid, and be prepared to work harder than you could ever imagine! Be open to new possibilities, but proceed with caution. Don't do anything half way, it's always better to wait until you are ready. Perhaps most importantly, share your ideas with friends and welcome feedback with an open mind--no one can create in a vacuum.
