Thank you for all the wonderful book selections in the last post! If you're looking for a good read, do check those comments out. I found myself diving into The Handmaid's Tale which I read so long ago (in college perhaps?) that I barely remembered anything about it. Claire Danes is the narrator, and does it beautifully. It matters greatly, the narrator, on these audiobooks. I may have been a little entranced because I found myself - once again - staying up past my bedtime listening to an audio book and sewing. But it was good. Time alone, at the end of the day, finishing up a project - it's soul-filling, to be sure and always worth being a little sleepy the next morning. Refreshed and sleepy, I think is how it goes.
I put the finishing touches on this quilt I've been working on here and there (you can see the beginnings of the quilt here). It is all Lotta Jansdotter, from her Glimma collection. It's backed in a heavy white muslin, with Dream Wool batting. I tied the quilt, rather than quilting it by machine. And the binding I made with leftover bits of the fabric, pieced together. Since I didn't have any kind of plan when beginning this quilt, the measurements are not standard to anything - I simply stopped when I ran out of fabric. It's a 'throw size' let's say.
Finished, now it lives in the library. Next to my studio, it's the chilliest room in the house. But oh, that morning sun that shines through there is delightful and hard to resist. I often found the kids bundled up in there with this, that, or another blanket from elsewhere in the house, happily snuggled in for a read. Now there's a dedicated 'library' blanket, which makes us all happy. Sunshine, books and a quilt? Yes, please.
