SouleMama: What's the biggest challenge you face in running your business?
Jan: Finding high quality, made in the U.S. garments to print on has gotten progressively harder. Over the last 10-15 years, most large companies have shifted their production oversees, where regulations are lax and wages are cheap. This puts a strain on remaining U.S. mills that pay higher wages, resulting in more and more mills closing their doors. I'm always on the hunt for a new source!
SouleMama: How does your business reflect your personal values?
Jan: Silk Oak is more than just a way for us to make a living. We believe it's possible for business to help create healthier, more vibrant communities. We print on U.S. grown cotton, sweatshop free garments and choose organic when possible! We pay living wage or above and work to strengthen our local economy and keep more dollars circulating locally.
