Today, we bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor, Tangled Sky Studio. In Beth's words:
"Beth Billups is the artist behind Tangled Sky Studio. Her original encaustic paintings explore home as a personal narrative. She build layers of meaning by combining ephemera, oil paint and beeswax, rendering modern images in an ancient medium.

SouleMama: How long have you been in business?
Beth: I can hardly believe it but my Etsy shop is close to celebrating it's 6th anniversary.
SouleMama: What led you to the work you do today?
Beth: I have always been a maker. I held jobs in the corporate world for many years after college but always had something creative going on the side. I have explored all types of painting, print making, book binding, quilting, embroidery, fabric dyeing, knitting, furniture refinishing and ceramic sculpture. After the birth of my 1st child I narrowed my focus and studied ceramic tile making at Pewabic Pottery in Detroit. After the birth of my 2nd child I purchased a used kiln, so I could work from home and for six years I made and sold ceramic art tiles in local shops and participated in tile fairs. After the birth of my 3rd child (and a big move) I took a sabbatical that lasted almost two years. I discovered Encaustic Painting just as I was feeling the need to get back to creating and fell in love with the color, texture and lush quality of the ancient medium. I set up a home studio and studied and painted for just over two years before I discovered Etsy and worked up enough courage to put my work out into the world.
SouleMama: What is you favorite part of your job? What is the most challenging?
Beth: My favorite part of what I do is also the most challenging. The connections I've made across miles and oceans through my work is by far my favorite part of what I do. So much of what we experience is universal but so often as we are going through things (big and small) we feel isolated. I take small everyday experiences, my relationships with others and with my surroundings and big life changes and process them in a visual medium. This is great when things are going really well and even when things are pretty rough because there is much inspiration in both extremes. It is the lull in between, when the equivalent of writers block takes hold, that is the most challenging. Over the years I've learned to ride these times out by exploring other mediums and stretching myself creatively.
