SouleMama: How long have you been in business?
Alyssa: Many of our newer customers are surprised to hear that we've been making shoes in the same small town for over 20 years. Our shop opened on Main Street, Aurora in 1991. We moved up the road a few years later and have been here, cutting and stitching the same patterns ever since. It's great to hear from people who wore our shoes in the '90s and, through the magic of the internet, found us again. It is such a pleasure to see people wearing the same pair of shoes they bought from us in the early years. We're all about quality over quantity around here!
SouleMama: How has your business changed over time?
Alyssa: We are proud to say that we've been making the same styles in the same colors for over 20 years. There is definitely something to be said for classic styles that never feel dated! We hope that we've hit the mark with our new boots, which we plan to release online in August. They're very simply cut and retain the same broad toe box that allows your toes to sit where they belong. We don't have any other plans for new shoe styles any time soon, but are working on prototypes for simple wallets and a clutch with a goal to have something ready for release by Christmas. It's a big project, but nothing like designing a shoe!
SouleMama: How do your surroundings influence your business?
Alyssa: We live and work in a very small town. It's the kind of place where most neighbors are separated by acres of farm land and traffic lights are non-existent. There is an honesty and a sincerity inherent in country life that infuses everything we do. We value simplicity, comfort, and function in all aspects of our lives and have worked to build a business that reflects those values.
