SouleMama: What's the product or offering that you are most excited about in your shop right now? Tell us about it.
Sarah: I’m pretty much in love with everything that we have in the shop for summer right now, but I’m particularly fond of the goods for exploring and fort making. As a kid I spent a lot of time outdoors in the summer months building imaginary kingdoms out of branches, reading books under the shade of a tree, and collecting bugs and butterflies. Even though it has been decades since I’ve had an entire summer to play and wander, the memories from those magical days are still crystal clear and I try to recreate them whenever I can.
SouleMama: What's the one thing you can't live without?
Sarah: The one thing I absolutely cannot live without is wilderness. I’m pretty sure this has been true my whole life, but as I’ve gotten older, finding wild spaces seems almost as important as food and water. Living in a big city means this can be a bit of a challenge at times so I have to be open with my definition of “wild”. On the days when I can’t get outside the gridded lines of the city, I go for walks in my neighborhood and wander through overgrown alleyways and vacant lots. It always surprises me how much plant diversity can be found in a single city block and how, with a slight adjustment in perspective (looking up at the sky through tree branches or through the grass while lying on a picnic blanket at the park), I can experience a little wilderness if only for a moment.
SouleMama: Do you have a favorite inspirational quote?
Sarah: In these midsummer months filled with books and plants my favorite quote lately has been “If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” ~ Cicero
