Today, we bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor, Bamboletta Dolls, Ltd. In Christina's words:
"We make all natural handcrafted dolls in our studio on Vancouver Island, Canada."
SouleMama: How has your business changed over time?
Christina: When I first started Bamboletta I basically did everything. No, I did do everything. I learned each aspect and honed it to exactly how I'd like it to be done - so product descriptions, how to photograph, how to make the doll shoes, dye the hair, stuff the bodies - I know each aspect of Bamboletta inside out. Over time and as we've grown I've passed along tasks to my team and because I know them so well I feel like I've been able to plant a seed of that particular aspect of the work within them. This is something I am so happy with on how my business has grown - that the integrity of workmanship has the same thread carried throughout our growth from the beginning. That being said, now over 12 years, it's actually evolved into something even better because my team have surpassed myself in their given talents. So, Andrea, who dyes our yarn to make our doll hair is now more skilled then I was when I was doing it so many years ago. Rachel can sew a doll body better then I can now. I've trained craftswomen and they have excelled in their craft. They bring together their skills to make Bamboletta what it is now but the very heart of it remains the same as when I started.
SouleMama: How do you keep yourself motivated, and avoid burnout?
Christina: I really love my work and I feel very fortunate. That being said, I haven't had more then 4 days off in a row for years. It's just the flow of my work and because I sew on most of the doll faces, our weeks worth of dolls depend on my work. So, I've narrowed down my time to do what brings me joy. I sew on all the faces, which I love, and do my book keeping, which my Virgo self likes. I've also put a tight limit on my social media and have an awesome gal, Brooke, take care of things (except for Instagram - it love it). My studio is really my happy place, I try to keep things I love here and make it really my space. I also have recently learned how important self care is - which can be a hard lesson for a mama. But I've come to realize how absolutely important it is to take care of yourself - I mean, I'd always hear how important it was but never thought I had time for anything for me, you know? So, I try to go away for yoga retreats once in a while, I meditate, I break out the yoga mat in the middle of the day for a 20 minute flow. See, it doesn't take much - even the act of washing and moisturizing your face each night or lathering your skin with some yummy oils after a shower - it's like a check in with yourself, a recognition of you - beyond mother, employer, etc.
