Today, we bring you a giveaway from SouleMama Sponsor, Craft South. In Anna Maria's words:
"Craft South, founded by Anna Maria Horner, has -over the summer of 2014- been a series of monthly classes, workshops, kids classes and pop-up shops. We've supplied Nashville and everyone who has traveled to be with us loads of inspiration, techniques and products for sale in sewing, patchwork, needlework and craft categories. We've also connected all the participants with designers that inspire them like Any Butler, Liesl Gibson, Natalie Chanin and Heather Ross.
We've just launched a Facebook Page for Craft South that will be a good place to keep up with our permanent location updates!"
SouleMama: What is the next big thing for Craft South?
Anna Maria: We have found the permanent location for Craft South to rest and will be open around the calender in the early part of 2015! After months of searching and then further months of lease negotiations we are so thrilled to be landing in the exciting and bustling neighborhood of 12 Avenue, South in Nashville. The area is incredibly diverse and vibrant and we are so happy to be bringing our little piece of handmade community to the neighborhood. We are equally excited that we get to share this wonderful part of Nashville with everyone that will travel a small or great distance to spend some time with us.
SouleMama: Tell us about your customers.
Anna Maria: When we were first able to share Craft South with your readers, I didn't even have any craft-south-customers yet! All of our workshops, and pop-ups shops were simply planned and listed, but this summer has changed all that, and we have had more than 100 women & kids come through our (temporary) studio doors to spend an entire weekend or just a day learning from us. But really what is grand is that they have been learning with my co-teachers and myself. There has been such a lovely spirit of sharing and joy in the handmade that we are more motivated than ever to complete this project in is permanent form. Our customers have done that for usand we are so grateful.
SouleMama: How has developing the craft-south project changed how you work for your own brand, Anna Maria Horner?
Anna Maria: I love what I do personally-designing print for textiles, books & patterns for patchwork, clothing, accessories, and needlework- but this extension of Craft South, which is outside of my own brand, has enhanced my design perspective. There are so many ways of doing handcraft and design that I adore and want to support, but that are completely different from anything that I would choose to do or would even be capable of doing. Craft South is giving me the amazing opportunity to collect, curate and share what I think is beautiful, and even important about making and also about the makers. We have, in the South, such a deep and rich tradition of handmade, and immersing myself as an artist in my own community for the first time -and just not online- is new and intoxicating. I feel very fortunate.
