SouleMama: Tell us about your background. What path led you to the work you do today?
Jennifer: Lately I've been marveling at the way that so many divergent experiences in my past converged to lead me to what I'm doing now. My job brings together so many of my different interests, and I get to at least dabble in all of them. My college degree was in Cultural Anthropology, which I think is very helpful for my work, and I also was very interested in the environment, art and design, writing and photography. Now I get to incorporate all of those interests in my work.
SouleMama: How do you keep yourself motivated, and avoid burnout?
Jennifer: I recently started making a morning hike part of my daily routine. I've had to start getting up a bit earlier, which is not easy for me, but once I'm up and out the door I ride my bike for about 5 minutes to one of my favorite areas and go for a 3.5 mile hike in on the ridge near our house. I not only get some great exercise and take in some gorgeous scenery and wildlife, but it gives me time to let my mind wander and brainstorm, and it has really helped me to be refreshed and feel more creative at work. I've found that I feel more excited about the work that I do when I can get a little distance every day and take some time to think about the big picture.
SouleMama: What's the product or offering that you are most excited about in your shop right now? Tell us about it.
Jennifer: This fall we're going to be introducing a group of designs on lightweight canvas as part of our Westwood collection, and I absolutely can't wait for them to get here! I have all sorts of ideas for projects, from skirts and bags for me, to new pillows for our couch, to some cute painter pants for Anabelle. I might even recover one of our old chairs in one of the designs. It'll be fun to have a new fabrication to play with!
