This has been another delightfully busy week in the garden, getting so many more beds ready and so much into the ground. We just passed our average last frost date here in our neck of the woods and the forecast looks safe for almost everything, so into the ground it all goes just as fast as we can do it.
Much to our excitement, three years after planting it, we harvested and ate our first meal of asparagus for dinner last night! A few pieces for all, but the tastiest asparagus we've ever had, made especially more so I think by the wait.
The girls have been busy making 'garden offerings' on a stump by the garden gate each day, gathering bits of acorns and flowers and whatever else they can find. Very mandala-like, it's been so sweet to see them wipe it clean and start over each day, and it's a pleasure to stop what I'm doing every once in a while to join them.
And today, with a new pile of enamelware (from Brimfield) to play with in my perennial beds, and the sun shining, I'm ever so eager to get back out there and get my hands in the soil for just as long as I can! Ah...such a full and busy time of year it is in the garden!
